The NPS Way:

Curriculum, Assessment, Reporting

Our most recent Parent Opinion Survey data shows many of our community are unsure of assessment methods as well as how curriculum is taught at NPS. Thankyou for your feedback, we hope this new page will give you a better idea of how we do things. Welcome to the NPS way.

In your childs Semester One reports you would have noticed Maths was reported in a different way. Previously, teachers reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). As we did in Semester One and under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, we report against a single achievement standard, providing an aggregated score. This change was made to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

Writing - No More Marking

Students in grade 2,4 and 6 complete a writing assessment in term 1 and 4 in a program called No More Marking. Students writing is uploaded through the portal (name removed) and "comparably judged" by a number of teachers (judges) across the country. An algorithm gives a scaled score (see below) and a "writing age". This information is used to triangulate other data we collect at NPS to support our understanding of each students needs.
