Respect and Connect: Youth Leadership Forum

On Tuesday 14th of October I was fortunate enough to attend the first of three leadership sessions at Roberts McCubbin Primary School.  I attended this session with my grade five colleagues: Chloe C, Bella, Leila, Gemma, Tamara, Lucy, Austin, Dimmi and Nick.  The session included representatives from five other schools.

The Young Leaders Forum brings together emerging Year 5 student leaders from local primary schools. This program is designed to inspire confidence, strengthen student voice, and give young leaders the opportunity to create meaningful change within their communities around gender equality.

As part of the first day we focused on the following key activities:

◦ Leadership training from AFL trainer Brad Jenkinson.

◦ Martial arts class.

◦ A presentation on keeping focused

◦ Equity & equality

My favourite activity was the equity and equality session because I think that everyone learnt something new from that.  I think it gave me a new perspective on what other people’s lives might be like.

I think everyone is looking forward to the next sessions!
