School News Update

Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
It has been another busy fortnight at ASPS with many learning opportunities and activities taking place across the school.
Please read below the short piece by Jo Kretsis regarding our Science Talent Search participants.
I would like to thank parents and carers who were able to attend the morning and afternoon tea sessions with me recently. It has been lovely meeting everyone and hearing thoughts and ideas about areas for improvement, acknowledging what is going well at ASPS and highlighting some of the things that are important to our school community. Thank you to our parents and carers for coming along and taking time out to provide your feedback.
Please read the information that has been sent to parents via Xuno about the upcoming anniversary event. More information will be sent out to parents closer to the day once all details have been finalised.
A reminder to read and complete the Peer Nomination Form with your child/ren and return these to the school by Friday 31 October.
Kind regards,
Travis
SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH RESULTS
A huge congratulation to all the winners of this year’s SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH competition.
The 2025 Theme Decoding the Universe: Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language was quite a challenging one, even so our passionate entrepreneurs did a remarkable job creating amazing projects.
We would like to thank the following teachers who represented our school as judges on Saturday 9th August: Tessa Rinaldi, Jessie Cartmell, Benny Chan and Jo Kretsis.
The certificates and feedback forms will be presented in our next assembly on Monday 17th November.
There were 38 entries and all with outstanding results.

Anniversary Acknowledgment
As we approach the first anniversary of the recent tragedy, we want to share final details of how our school will acknowledge this significant day.
As previously communicated, the school day will finish early on Wednesday, October 29 at 1:00 PM. This will allow time for families to collect their children and return together for the service, which will begin at approximately 1:45 PM, followed by a light afternoon tea.
This service will provide an opportunity for families, students, and staff to pause and reflect. Together, we will honour the memory of the young life lost, support those still healing, and acknowledge the incredible kindness and solidarity shown during one of the school’s most challenging times.
Attendance is optional and we respect that each individual and family may wish to mark this day in their own way. Children attending must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
To assist with planning, please RSVP using the link below and indicate one of the following:
- My child/ren will attend the service with me
- My child/ren will leave school at 1:00pm
- My child/ren will need to remain at school under supervision until 3:30pm
- My child/ren will not be attending school on 29 October
We want to remind families that feelings of grief can re-emerge around anniversaries. Our wellbeing team and additional staff will be available throughout the week, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support.
We appreciate the care, sensitivity, and unity of our school community during this time.

Policies in the Spotlight
Have you ever wondered exactly what 'school policies' do or how important they are? Have you ever wanted to know more about school policies? Perhaps you’ve never actually given them any thought!
School policies are not just paperwork. They’re practical tools that guide how we support, care for and teach every child here at ASPS. They are developed by the School Leadership Team in collaboration with School Council and are renewed on a regular basis.
In this new 'Policies in the Spotlight' series we will shine a light on key school policies; what they are and why they matter.
Whether you’re a new parent or a seasoned member of our community, we hope you will find this series useful. So stay tuned each newsletter for a quick, easy-to-read guide to one of our school’s policies.
And don’t forget, you can also find all our policies on our beautifully refreshed School Website: https://auburnsthps.vic.edu.au/policies/
Updated ASPS Volunteer Handbook
We have a newly updated Volunteer Handbook, we encourage all parents to have a read of this document.
For new volunteers, if you would like to help on any upcoming excursions, SAKG and/or Canteen, please read the handbook and complete the form on the back of the pack and submit it along with a copy of your valid WWCC at the school office.
