What's Happening In Secondary

Year 7/8 Creative Writing

Throughout Term 1, 15 of our Year 7/8 students have composed narrative stories as a part of the Creative Writing option we offer. They have been given the opportunity to expand their thinking around literary techniques, story structure and reader engagement. We have been looking at creating vivid story descriptions through alliteration, simile and metaphor.

Here are some of their writing samples for you to enjoy: 

“In the heart of a lush and mystical jungle, there existed a secret grove where the ancient and wise elephants resided. These elephants were not just ordinary creatures – they possessed an extraordinary gift of wisdom and harmony with nature. In the centre of their sacred grove grew a magnificent lemon tree, known to all as the Tree of Elephara.”

Sophia (Year 7).

“A young man stands behind me with an aura of quiet intensity, his presence almost ethereal. His sharp features – high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and eyes that seem to shimmer with a depth of ancient knowledge – gave him an otherworldly air, as if he carried the weight of centuries within him.”

Jasmine (Year 7).

“A distant rumble grabbed his attention. He stood up, tears still streaming from his face. He stood on a parapet and looked over the flat plains. He saw a distant fog crawling it’s way forward. He readied himself, as other soldiers stood beside him." 

Jack (Year 7).

“"Tick Tock, Tick Tock!” Time is against me. I scampered alone through the dark streets. I go through the clear car parks and broken bridges, the crooked roads and the empty streets.”
