Learning Community 2

23A - Mr. Rennie

23B - Ms. McAsey

Wow, the end of the term is upon us! Where does the time fly.

Thanks to all the parents who were able to come in for parent teacher conferences, it was great to meet you all, discuss your amazing kiddos, share insight and understand their broad context. If you were unable to make parent teacher conferences, you can always reach out to either Mr. Rennie or Ms. McAsey via email or by calling the school and we will be more than happy to make a time to meet.

For reading we have been focusing on making personal connections to texts and even began looking at text to text connections. We explored different versions of the Three Little Pigs and made connections between the texts! For Harmony week, we also looked at all the reasons we celebrate being Australian and how Australia is made of many different migrants. This linked in with our unit on Geography and gave us an opportunity to celebrate our students from diverse backgrounds.

We are finishing off our Narratives unit, and students are learning to use "sizzling starts", "wow words" that describe things using the 5 senses and consolidated their understanding of the way to structure a narrative.

In mathematics, we have been exploring time, focusing on calendars and schedules. How long until the end of term and how long until easter were exciting questions to consider!

Volunteers

Thank you to those parent volunteers that have been at school and supporting our students with their reading. It is gracious of you to donate your time. We are looking for more support if any parents are able to; just the first 15minutes of the day from Tuesday to Friday, any day you are able to support would be greatly appreciated.

Reading & Diaries

It has been wonderful to see more diaries at school in the last few weeks. Your continued effort to remind your child is greatly appreciated. A reminder that if diaries are lost, please communicate and we will make previsions. Mr. Rennie and Mrs. McAsey are endeavoring to check each diary each week at least once and we have been impressed with how much great reading has been happening.

If your child is finding the level too low, please communicate this in their diary so that we can check and adjust the level of reader that is being sent home.

Spelling

The first spelling lists should have gone out in student diaries the last weeks. Practice at home is enthusiastically encouraged. If your child does not have a diary at school, on Fridays, the word list will be placed into one of their readers.

Spelling words in week 10 focus on 'ow' as in 'snow'.

Library

Please remind your child to return their library books so that they can borrow new books each week. It would be great to ensure students have new books to take home over the term break!

Students have access to the school library each week on Thursdays. Students also have access to the mobile Library each Monday. If you child does not have a public library card you can ask for a form from your classroom teacher, so that one can be organised.
