Prep Guy
In Literacy we have been revising the letters of the alphabet and their most common sounds. We have then used this knowledge to label pictures and write sentences with uppercase letters to begin, spaces between our words and a full stop to end. Wow! We have some very clever Preppies! We had a lot of fun on Friday making an aliteration book with our knowledge of the first sound of our name. For example Mrs Guy, grabbed some grapes for a gorilla and giggled while her pet goat gobbled the grapes.
We had fun sliming teachers, for the students who raised the most money before our school fun run on Friday.
In Maths we have been revising numbers to 20, breaking these numbers into tens and ones, showing what numbers come before and after given numbers, deciding if these numbers are odd or even and arranging a group of numbers from smallest to largest. We then learnt about time, including arranging the days of the week in order, saying what yesterday and tomorrow are. We sequenced activities from morning to afternoon and night. Ask your child to sing The Days Of The Week song to you!
Thank you to those parents who came to teacher parent chats. If you were unable to make these times, my door is always open to you.
Wishing everyone a safe, fun filled Easter holidays.
Prep Guy Student Achievers
Congratulations to Ellie and Carlee who have been chosen as this week's Students Of The Week.
Ellie was chosen for showing our school value of respect, caring for a student who was feeling sad. Well done Ellie.
Carlee was chosen for showing our school value of responsibility, concentrating on her learning tasks and completing them to a high standard. Well done Carlee.
Prep Guy are so proud of you both.
Our learning
We have had a busy two weeks in our classroom. We finished our alphabet in English and will be spending the remainder of the Term revising our alphabet sounds! We met Jack Jellyfish (Jj), Uncle Upton (Uu), Kylie koala (Kk), Max Fox (Xx) and Wilbur whale (WW).
We have also begun exploring sentences and alliteration and have had heaps of fun using our characters names to create silly sentences, such as, Ben bear blows up big blue balloons for his banana birthday or my favourite from the students, thanks to Jaxon was, Peter Penguin poops in pockets.
In maths, we have revised our numbers and place value, particularly with teen numbers. This week we began exploring the concept of time, and the vocabulary surrounding morning, afternoon and evening/ night. We have been practicing singing our days of the week, we have explored ordering them and we have discussed what we do on each day.
We learnt about and celebrated Harmony Day. We read stories about different cultures and discussed our own cultures and how they are similar and different from our peers. We made a Harmony Day display using collaborative colouring ins and hearts.
Family helpers/ Volunteers
Thank-you to those of you that have been able to support our class with Reading Groups. It makes the first 15 minutes of our days extra special. I’d like to gently and kindly ask that if your child struggles to seperate from you after reading groups, then please refrain from attending until we can overcome those nerves. I am more than happy for family members and/ or siblings to attend, however I would like to note the importance of our students starting their day with a clear and consistent routine. We start Reading Groups when the bell goes at 9:00am. Once a group is finished, they are asked to quietly read (using whisper or silent voices) in the reading corner until everyone is finished. Students are to be supported to do this independently as this also helps us to begin learning how to read-to-self. Please support us in ensuring we start our day calmly, quietly and in a relaxed manner so as we can set ourselves up for our learning and success during the day. If you have not yet attended the Volunteer Induction session with Jenny, you are unable to support us in our classroom until this is done. If you have any questions about how to access this information or when sessions will occur, please contact the school. A reminder that take-home readers are designed to build your child’s confidence and fluency in reading. These books are designed to be ‘easier’ for our Grade Ones (and eventually Preps), as the learning surrounding how to read occurs at school. If you have any questions about this, please come and see me.
Congratulations to William and Jackson who are our current Reading Night champions!!!
Our Student Achievers
Congratulations to this week’s student Achiever Lochie. Lochie is a new student to BPS this year and has settled right in. Lochie loves sharing his cool toys and interests with his peers. He has been focusing on overcoming challenges in his learning, taking deep breaths when things get hard & using strategies such as getting peer or adult help, using his dictionary and re-examining our learning intentions and instructions. In so proud of the growth you have shown this term Lochie; I can’t wait to see what we continue to achieve this year.
Here are some snaps from our maths place value lesson!!!
A big thank-you to the parents/ families that came in for Parent Teacher Talks over the last two weeks. If you weren’t able to see me in those times and would like to discuss anything, I’m happy to discuss this further with you.

Our Learning
In Reading, we focus on a new book each week. We have been looking at "At The Beach, Postcards from Crabby Spit," for the last 2 weeks, and students have been learning to recount facts that they have read about.
In writing, we have also been using the book to recount our experiences we have read about using: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Then writing about this.
In Numeracy, we have been talking about our seasons and also looking at the Kaurna Meyunna Seasonal Calender. This is just one of the many Indigenous seasons. As we are in Autumn and the leaves are falling, students made leaf characters to stick around our seasons display.
We celebrated Harmony Day in the classroom and learnt that "Everyone Belongs".
