Principal's Reports

Principal - Ms. Jenny Dowsett

 Sliming:

Thank you to Parents & Friends for organising the 'slime the staff' event last week. Or at least I think I'm thanking you, considering the amount of slime I was covered with :)

It was great to see the students having so much fun!

Interschool Sports:

I know there's a separate report for the interschool sports but I really wanted to do a shout out to the 'Hot Shots Tennis Team'. The group of 6 boys were excellent role models of our school values. They were competitive, honest and displayed great sportsmanship. They made the semi finals and only missed out on the final by 1/2 a point.

Fire Drill:

This week we had our Shelter In Place fire drill. The drill went very smoothly and gives us an opportunity to check our procedures for their effectiveness. Once students hear the alarm, they listen for an announcement of where they are to evacuate to. For this drill it is to the hall. Students then line up in roll order and follow their teacher's directions, walking to the hall. During the drill, staff members have different responsibilities such as checking that windows and doors are closed, checking that no students are in the toilets etc. Our students managed the drill extremely well.

Parent Teacher Chats:

Thank you to all of our parents who were able to attend parent teacher chats to check in on how your children have settled into the 2025 school year. If you were unable to attend or find a suitable time, please make contact with your child's teacher to arrange an alternative time.

School Tours:

School tours for 2026 have started, so if you know any families who are looking to enrol at Bunyip Primary School for 2026, please encourage them to call us and make a time to be shown around. This week and next week we have a time slot for group tours. (Thursdays at 9.30am.) Tours run for approximately 1 hour. Individual tours can be booked mid term 2.

Working Bee:

School Council are keen to have a working bee to do some of the small jobs around the school. We have decided to try a working bee at the end of a school day. The working bee will be on Thursday 1st May, starting at 3.30pm. We are hoping families can stay for an hour or two to do jobs such as tidying up gardens, sweeping drains, pruning, fluffing up the mulch under the playgrounds etc.

Parent Feedback:

Each year the department send out a parent opinion survey, however we find that very few families actually fill the survey out. This survey is yet to come out but, in the meantime, we are seeking feedback from parents about term 1. Over the next week, I will be asking parents to complete a quick feedback form called '2 Stars and a Wish'. We would like you to write 2 things you think have gone well and 1 wish you have for something you wish we hadn't done, had done or had considered. Once you have completed the feedback form, there will be a red post box at the front office to 'post' your feedback. Please don't use individual names in your feedback. If I don't get an opportunity to ask you and you would like to provide feedback, there will be some spare feedback forms at the office.
