Year Four - Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families,
As the term comes to a close, we look back and are proud to see so much growth in our student's learning, resilience and social skills. We hope each student and their families are able to rest up a bit in the holidays and enjoy the blessings of the Easter Season. This brings our much anticipated Easter Vigil on Saturday night where the church begins in darkness to symbolize the darkness of death and then transitions to light, with the lighting of the Paschal Candle, representing Christ's resurrection and the triumph of light over darkness. A very special Mass indeed!
God's blessings in abundance to you and yours,
From the Jericho Teaching Team!
Religious Education Focus
In Term 2 we will celebrate the story of Easter and begin our new topic, " Called to Serve - Great Heroes are worth following." We will explore Heroes, Confirmation, Pentecost, Service and Mother Mary.
English Focus
Next term we will be continuing with the mentor text 'Leo and Ralph' by Peter Carnavas. Students will continue working on their narrative writing focusing on the next part of the story which will include the problem and resolution phase.
Mathematics Focus
Students will begin the term with a unit on decimals and percentages. The students will learn to recognise and extend the application of place value to tenths and hundredths and use the conventions of decimal notation to name and represent decimals.
Integrated Studies
Next term we move onto our next topic - Civics and Citizenship. Through the study of Civics and Citizenship, students investigate political and legal systems, and explore the nature of citizenship, diversity and identity in contemporary society. They gain the knowledge and skills necessary to question, understand and contribute to the world in which they live.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR
Students will be completing the last few lessons on personal and cultural strengths where they will learn about respect, and using their strengths to show respect.
Auslan Focus
Students will begin unit 3A and learn that they can shake their head when signing to show the opposite and vocabulary such as: ‘Everyone stand up’, ‘Are you ready? Let’s start!’, ‘very good’ and ‘Do you understand?’.
