Year One - Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
As we come to the end of Term 1, the Jerusalem team want to celebrate the wonderful progress the children have made. It has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence, build friendships, and develop a love for learning. From mastering new sounds and numbers to exploring the world around them, they have all worked so hard and should be very proud of themselves!
We would like to thank all the parents and families for your ongoing support—it truly makes a difference in their learning journey. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back in Term 2 for the exciting educational journey ahead.
Wishing you all a wonderful safe holiday from all the Jerusalem staff!
Religious Education focus:
In Week 10, the students took part in their first Year 1 Holy Mass, demonstrating reverence and enthusiasm. Their angelic singing filled the space with harmony, while their attentive listening to Father Dennis reflected their deep engagement. Those who read during the Mass did so beautifully, showcasing the skills they had diligently practiced throughout the term. Every student played a role in making the Mass a truly meaningful and successful occasion.
English focus:
The students engaged in a focused writing activity about their families, reflecting on everything they had learned over the term. For 20 minutes, they worked with concentration and dedication, carefully expressing their thoughts and experiences. The classrooms were filled with quiet determination as each student put their ideas onto paper, demonstrating both their writing skills and their growing understanding of their family dynamics. Their hard work and commitment resulted in thoughtful and heartfelt pieces of writing.
Mathematics focus:
Students continued to work on Data Investigations finding out teachers favourite numbers, how many different colours occurred in a chart and how to present their information.
SEL:
Students discussed different emotions and how they are feeling now that it is the end of the term. They also showed how they might look when exhibiting different emotions.
History:
Students used Seesaw and presented their work on their personal history.
AUSLAN: Students revised AUSLAN and showed how they would use the sign for look.
Religious Education focus: We will be learning about Mother Mary and Pentecost.
English focus: We will reading books about ANZAC day, making ANZAC biscuits and learning about Indigenous culture.
Mathematics focus: Students will focus on addition and subtraction, measurement including time.
SEL: Students will learning coping skills and how to problem solve issues.
History: We will be learning how things from the past shape us today.
AUSLAN Focus: Students will be learning common questions that they can use in the classroom like, "Can I work with you?" and "Can you help me please?"
