Year Five - Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

We have arrived at the end of Term 1. Throughout this term we have seen Safety, Respect and Learning in action amongst the students in the Bethany Community. We thank you for your support throughout the term, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family.

Religious Education Focus:

In Week 1 the students will conclude our unit about Holy Week, with a focus on the Resurrection of Jesus in the context of our theme  "We weren't made for comfort; we were made for greatness."

English Focus

The students will begin a new text "Tom Appleby Convict Boy" written by Jackie French. They will be focussing on planning and writing an introduction to an information report.

Mathematics Focus

Students will begin a unit on comparing and ordering fractions, and begin to learn about improper fractions. In the first week we are going to make our own Fraction Walls, which gives students a visual understanding of fractions.

Auslan Focus

The focus will be movement signs such as Stand up, Sit down, Are you ready? Do you understand?, and I understand.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus

Students will consider how character strengths look like in action, with peer or family relationships. They are also looking at how talk can harm or heal, with a focus on online safety.
