School Holidays, Family Time and Easter: A Time to Reconnect
As the school holidays and Easter approach, it is the perfect time for families to pause, recharge, and enjoy quality time together. After a busy term, this break offers a chance to step away from routines and focus on what matters most: each other.
Easter is a time for celebration, reflection, and tradition. Whether you decorate eggs, organise an egg hunt, or simply share a family meal, these activities create lasting memories. For many, Easter also brings a chance to reflect on themes of renewal, kindness, and hope.
The holidays are also a great opportunity to rest and rejuvenate. By unplugging from daily stresses and enjoying peaceful moments, everyone can return to their routines feeling refreshed.
This Easter, embrace the opportunity to slow down, cherish family time and enjoy the simple joys of being together.

Mother’s Day Celebration at Great Southern Grammar
It is with great joy and excitement that we announce our upcoming Mother’s Day celebration at the Early Childhood Centre at Great Southern Grammar.
This special occasion offers us a wonderful opportunity to honour and celebrate the incredible mothers who play such an essential role in the lives of our students.
We warmly invite mothers (or a special friend) of students from Kindergarten to Year Two to join us on Wednesday 7 May, for a memorable morning filled with meaningful activities shared alongside their children and classmates. The event will begin at 9.00 am and conclude with students remaining in their classrooms while mothers enjoy a delightful morning tea in the library from 10.00 am.
We sincerely hope you can join us for this special occasion as we celebrate the amazing women who make a difference in our children’s lives.
Classroom News
Kindergarten: Our Kindergarten classes have been having lots of fun in the ECC this term. Learning many pre-writing patterns, syllables, word jumps, and writing our names are some of the fun literacy skills we have developed. In numeracy, we have been recognising numbers, shapes and counting to really high numbers! Learning all about ourselves and each other has been interesting. We now feel like one big Kindergarten family. We love our weekly adventures to the Wild Space, especially when we hunt for crabs! Easter activities are now in full swing, and we rounded off a wonderful term with our Easter Hat Parade!
Pre-Primary: This week in Pre-Primary we had a special surprise! We posed questions to help us make a ‘careful guess’ (prediction) about the item Ms Youens had brought for us to share. Some of the questions we asked included:
- What colour is it?
- Where is it kept?
- Where did it come from?
We found out that the object was red and green with a little bit of white, was being kept in the fridge and that Ms Youens bought it at Coles but before that it was grown on a farm. Can you guess what it was? …
… a watermelon!
We then used our powers of observation (a key Science skill) to make observations of the watermelon before we got to eat it!
Year One: The end of term has been super busy. The Year One students finished their History of Me inquiry unit by making chronological timelines of their lives. Acts of kindness have helped the children still think of others as the inevitable end-of-term tiredness looms. 2D shape knowledge has been consolidated, and geoboard challenges have inspired children to think beyond their ‘literal’ squares. Cross Country rehearsals, final assessments, and Easter activities have made this an eventful end to a very successful first term.
Year Two: It was Such an exciting week as we finally got to make and design our own Rube Goldberg machine, which included forces such as push and pull along with a pulley or lever force. The students really enjoyed the investigation and showed great determination to modify their original plan using trial and error if it did not work.
In Health we have also been learning to be ‘the best me I can be’ rather than comparing ourselves to others and their achievements, acknowledging when we have tried our best and being proud of our efforts. We have a class full of Super Stars, all special in their own way!
Year Four: We have had a fun week preparing for the Whole School Cross Country tomorrow and tidying up to be ready for the holidays. On Friday, we spent the whole day finishing our ‘simple machines’ unit by making our Rube Goldberg machines, which had four working simple machines, and we utilised a ball to create the chain reaction of events. It was great to cheer for our ECC students as they brightened our morning with their Easter Hat parade on Wednesday! We also farewelled our TAFE Practicum Education Assistant Mrs Julianne Dwyer-Adams (for now) and look forward to her return in Term Three.
Year Five: Our end-of-term dioramas look amazing, and we have thoroughly enjoyed completing them. We spent this week explaining them to the class and videoing our speeches so that our parents could enjoy them, too. We said goodbye to Mrs Liz Irving, who finished on Tuesday. We cannot thank her enough for the amazing effort she has put into Year Five this term.
Year Six: This term, Year Six has explored key economic concepts, including scarcity, opportunity cost, inflation, investment, and tariffs. They learned how limited resources force us to make choices, how inflation affects spending power, and how investment involves balancing risk and reward. Students discussed the impact of tariffs on international trade and used real-life examples to deepen their understanding. It has been an engaging journey, and we may have some future economists in the making!
