Principal Update

     Thursday 3rd April

We have one more day of school to go for Term 1. We hope everyone is ready to enjoy a well-deserved break and enjoy Easter.

It has been a challenging term for our school and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our staff and parent community for coming together and focusing on the many positives our school has.  This was evident after school yesterday where families had the opportunity to provide some feedback whilst the students enjoyed some popcorn, fairy floss, cordial and pizza.  Thanks to Dani Pearce and Sarah Wicking for organising this for us. For those families that were unable to attend we will send out a google form for you to have the chance to contribute.

Staffing update

Nicole Leary has been an integral part of the MCPS since 2013 working at our Preschool, as an ES supporting students in the classroom or in the office on Fridays.  Nicole has been working 4 days at Narre Warren North PS and from next term will be full time there.  Nicole is always positive and makes people smile. Her creativity, mischief and sense of fun will be missed.  On behalf of the school community I would like to acknowledge Nicole’s contribution over the years supporting our students, staff and families and say thank you.

Let’s Talk podcast

On Monday we filmed our second podcast.  This one was about showing random acts of kindness to others.  Well done to our students for their efforts learning the scripts and acting out the scenes.  We look forward to sharing the final product.

EDEC Athletics

Last Thursday we had 31 of our students from Year 3 – 6 represent Menzies Creek at the annual EDEC Athletics Carnival.  These students were selected based on their performances at our own House Athletics earlier in the term.  The conditions were perfect.  We had many students finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th and Eilidh (1500m), Arden (Shot Put) and Issy (Discus) have been selected to go through to the Divisional event later in the year. We were very proud of their efforts. Thanks to Daniel and Sarah for supporting the students and to the families that came to watch and support too.

Easter – Raffle, Bonnet Parade and donations

With Easter being at the end of the term 1 break we will draw our raffle and have an Easter bonnet parade on Wednesday 23rd April from 3pm in the greenspace.  Students have been busy in the Art room creating their items to wear for the parade. We will encourage students to come in free dress on this day with a gold coin that we will look to donate to the Monash Cancer Centre this year.

Thanks to the families that have been donating so we can provide some great prizes.  There is a tub in the school office foyer for people to place donations for Easter basket prizes please.

All donations to be in and tickets to be purchased by Tuesday 22nd April please, so that the baskets can be made up that night for the raffle to be drawn the following day.

School/community involvement

As you know we are always wanting to attract new enrolments and welcome new families to the MCPS community. Our free Messy Playgroup for children aged 1 - 5 years (all children are welcome, but activities will focus on this age group) is an opportunity for families to come and enjoy a chat, while the messy activities are taken care of by Kate W, Jacinta and Amanda.  It was great to see this highlighted in the local paper a couple of weeks back.

This Playgroup will run every Thursday of the school term, from 9:30 - 10:30.

Our next open morning, from 9:30 - 10:30, will be on Thursday 24th April.  Where we will invite new and existing families to come along and see the school in action.  You may have seen this advertised in the local paper and through Facebook.

End of term 1 - We will finish at 2:30pm tomorrow.  Assembly from 2:00pm

Start of term 2 - School returns on Tuesday 22 April.  After Easter Monday

Regards,

Dale
