Year 6 After School Rehearsals

Dear Year 6 Families,
Year 6 rehearsals for the school musical, ‘Not Your Average Joe’ will take place in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) auditorium on Mondays after school. These are the only drama rehearsals, so attendance is compulsory. For duty of care requirements, students must be picked up from the PAC by their carer, or a note needs to be provided to Miss McKennall, Mrs Spencer or Mrs Tretheway prior to rehearsals beginning (for example, if a student is being picked up by someone else). In the past, the staff at OSHC have collected students who would normally be at OSHC for that afternoon, so check with OSHC about this. Wherever possible, we have allowed for earlier pick-up times so please check the schedule carefully.
Students will need to bring extra food (breaks will be given), water bottles, their scripts and a pencil. We also recommend bringing a quiet activity (no devices). Sometimes a student has a break whilst we rehearse a scene they are not involved in. We try to keep this to a minimum, but it is not always possible to avoid.
Students need to have their lines learnt by the first rehearsal. This will be a task for the school holidays!

Tips for learning your lines and songs:
- Rehearse small chunks for short periods of time, several times a day. An hour of practice, broken up into 4 x 15 minute sessions throughout the day will help you to learn the bits faster than one solid hour.
- Rehearse every day!
- Either record yourself saying all of the dialogue (with your lines missing) and play it back to learn your own lines, OR get parents, siblings, grandparents, or friends to read along with you.
- Have the music on throughout the day as you are doing other things... It helps to get it into your brain!
- Rehearse in scene order. We are starting from the beginning, so if you are having real trouble learning all of it during the holidays, focus on the earlier scenes as they will be blocked first.
- Don't try to learn it all at once. Focus on one scene at a time, and move on once you know that one well.
- For some people, writing it out or reading the script (but not always speaking) can help too.
Warm regards,
