Student Representative Council (SRC) Semester 2

Dear parents of Years 2 to 6

We are excited to announce that students can now nominate themselves for the Student Representative Council (SRC) for Semester 2! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to become leaders and representatives for their classes.

Each class will hold a vote to elect their SRC representatives, and students will have the chance to attend meetings throughout Semester 2 to discuss important matters and contribute to our school community through various initiatives.

Each Year 2-6 class will be voting in the next couple of weeks, so we encourage all interested students to consider putting their names forward. If you have any questions about the voting process, please feel free to reach out to the class teacher.

Thank you for your support in encouraging our students to take on this leadership role!

Sydney Writers’ Festival 2025

Our school had an amazing time at Town Hall for the annual Sydney Writers’ Festival, with five amazing authors showcasing their literary compositions to the kids across many other schools. The event took place on Thursday, 22 May where luckily for us, our school is accessible to the venue via trains. After the smooth ride to go there, we found that it was raining, but we were not deterred by a light drizzle, so we got to the hall and sat down at our seats by half past nine.

As 63 excited kids from our school settled in their seats, they were hardly able to hold in the excitement in seeing all those beloved children’s authors, which were the MC Joel McKerrow, Jacqueline Harvey, Terri Libenson, Jared Thomas and Katrina Nannestad. These authors explained everything about their books in extreme graphic and oral detail. The behind-the-scenes description in their books clearly left the audience amazed and surprised.  I would like to introduce three of my favourite authors that showed up to the event.

Joel McKerrow’s books, Heist: The Great Chocolate Caper, Story Beats and Rhyme Drops and many more were showcased at this event. He showed them as an expression of his feelings and his technique of ‘getting a memory and expressing it on paper’ was a good one that students can use when doing creative writing at school. His poetry is a living wonder and it can help you when you are in need.

Jacqueline Harvey is a prolific Australian author that has written many books, particularly for children. A new book, The Girl and the Ghost is hitting  the bookshelves and will be a favourite for your child. The story is set in France, when 12-year-old Australian girl Josephine moves to France and moves into a crumbling chateau in the country. But when she discovers a mysterious locket, what will the secrets tell? This book was my aspiration to buy. But when I got to the queue, it was all sold out! I guess I wasn't the only one that liked it. And you may like it too!

Jared Thomas was also one of my favourite authors at the event. Your child, if from Year 3 last year, may recall a book called Uncle Xbox. The author of this is him. He is releasing seven more books in the following months. His next book, Getting Dusty, is already released, so maybe you can also check it out. It is about him making trouble at school and getting expelled, so as a thing he should remember about his behaviour, his uncle gives him some lessons and takes him outside regularly. He is a proud Nukunu man and has received many accolades for not only his writing, but for his Indigenous identity and his contributions. These were not the only authors there, but these were the three authors that came to mind first.

This event is not exclusive, everyone can come! By your child showing interest, and a quick signing of forms, you can share the story of the Sydney Writers Festival by explanations from your kid, going to the family event, or maybe just googling up some things about it. The event was a very memorable experience for everyone, and someday, you might go too!
