VPC Zoo Excursion

During term 1, Year 11 and 12 VPC have been working on a numeracy unit that involved map reading and logistics.

During week 9 students had the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge and skills into practice, navigating the public transport system and visiting the Melbourne Zoo. The day started at 8:50 am with students catching the V-Line train to Southern Cross Station where they had to use the PTV timetable to work out how to get to the Melbourne Zoo.

Once at the Zoo, students were given a set amount of time where they were required to use their map reading skills to navigate the zoo and find a range of animals and locations. They were lucky to have Bluey at the Zoo too, just to top it off. They then used the PTV system to once again find their way back to Melton at the end of the day. To finish the term, students will use the excursion to conduct a survey to find their favourite animals and graph the results. Excursions like this provide students with valuable life skills and enhance learning for all students.

Overall, the students really impressed with their ability to not only navigate the busy city, but also how they followed instructions and conducted themselves in public. A BIG thank-you must go to Amy and Emma for supporting the students on this excursion.
