Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 2 everyone! I hope that you had a wonderful Easter and School Holiday break. There is so much happening this term that it is probably lucky that we have eleven weeks to fit it all in. There are lots of opportunities for families to be involved in this term's school activities and we hope that you are able to join us where you can.  Please stay up to date with all of the events happening by checking the dates to remember on the newsletters and your Xuno notifications. As always if you have any questions please contact the office for assistance.

Education Week

Education Week in Victoria this year runs from May 19th to May 23rd. The focus for this year is making every child feel safe and welcome at school. We would like to invite parents, grandparents, friends and the wider school community to join us for a special morning on Friday May 23rd. From 10am we will host Open Classroom where visitors are able to come into the school and visit classrooms of their choice, the classroom teachers will be teaching aspects of our Resilience Project which develops emotional literacy and focuses on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM). At 10.30am we will host a special assembly where we will be showing our students and visitors how they can decorate a special GEM (river stone), which will then form part of our river of GEMs in our school garden. We would love as many people as possible to join us on this day to celebrate education at Lockington Consolidated School and contribute to our garden. Whilst the pictures below are not an exact replica of what we  are planning to create, they do provide some idea of our vision.

Pre Service Teachers

A very warm welcome to Ivy Linton and Cadi Kuchel  who are both currently completing pre-service teaching placements at our school. Ivy is in Year 5/6B and Cadi is in Year 1/2A. Both pre-service teachers are very lucky to have such great mentor teachers in Chris Boal and Trish McVeigh as well as the absolutely wonderful Lockington students. I am sure both Ivy and Cadi will be provided with lots of opportunities to grow and learn whilst they are with us.

ANZAC Ceremony

Our student leaders did a magnificent job running our school ANZAC Ceremony Thursday afternoon. They spoke with confidence and empathy as they led our students through the ceremony. Thank you to our staff and students who showed reverence throughout this special event.

On Friday our four school captains represented our school at the Lockington ANZAC Ceremony, leading the march and speaking at the service. It was wonderful that they were joined by so many of the Lockington CS students for both the march and at the service.    Once again our students demonstrated respect and reverence throughout the march and ceremony and were outstanding ambassadors for our school at this significant event. A special thank you to Jenny Howlett for organising our students to play such a pivotal role at this service.

Thank You

A huge thank you to Helen with some help from Eliza, two of our dedicated Parent and Friends Committee members who spent a considerable amount of time (not to mention muscle) removing our old senior playground.

As I type this, the new playground is being installed and should be finished early next week.  The new equipment offers a circuit type course, full of climbing, swinging, sliding and hanging adventures. The purchase of this playground was made possible via sponsorship and donations (organised by the P&F Committee) and we will be organising an official opening and dedication in the coming weeks.

School Uniforms

A reminder that we expect students to be in full school uniform each day. Students who are wearing non-uniform jumpers and hoodies will be asked to remove them whilst at school. Our uniform policy and additional information was published in the last newsletter (available on our website) for those families who require further information. Thank you, in advance for your assistance with this.

Mother's Day

On Friday May 9th we will be hosting a Mother's Day Breakfast starting at 8.30am. There

will be bacon egg rolls for our mums and carers. Tea and coffee will also be available. Thank you to Theircare who contributed to this event by donating some of the food.  Please mark this special event in your calendar and come along for something to eat, drink and a catch up. Please note, this breakfast is not available for students (but they are welcome to attend Breakfast Club in the art room if they wish).

Our Preps have organised a special pamper session for their mums' and special persons and this will begin at 9:15am in the Prep room an invitation was sent out via Xuno for this event to those families of Prep students.

That's all for this week, Lisa Duffy.
