Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Writing students are beginning to look at creating narratives.  Narratives include characters and settings, and often have a problem or event in them that the character needs to overcome.  Students will have an opportunity to create their own characters and settings, and can give these characters their unique personality traits.

VOCABULARY

Narratives: a spoken or written story.

Adjectives: a word that describes a person, place or thing e.g. the happy boy.

Problems: an issue or conflict in a story that impacts the characters, usually in the middle of a story.

Solutions: the solving of a problem, usually at the end of the story.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

When driving, discuss different characters that you may have seen in a movie or a book.  What was their personality?  What did they look like? Perhaps even begin creating a story together.
