Weeks 7 and 8 - Leaning In

Please remember to children with their school sun hat each day !

As we step into the latter part of the term, we are eager to provide you with a glimpse of what lies ahead in Weeks 7 and 8. We are excited to share the exciting developments and upcoming events with you!

Numeracy

In the realm of numeracy, Weeks 7 and 8 will bring a special focus on the concept of partitioning and combining numbers up to 10 through the part-whole relationship. This exciting learning adventure involves breaking down numbers into their different parts,

helping our students develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental building blocks of mathematics. We look forward to witnessing their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities flourish as they explore this concept in the coming weeks.

Literacy

During Weeks 7 and 8, our young writers will embark on an exciting journey of creativity and expression. They will be crafting engaging narratives using picture prompts, with a particular focus on developing characters, painting vivid and descriptive settings, and ensuring the inclusion of compelling problems and solutions to make their stories truly come to life. These storytelling adventures will nurture their imagination and narrative skills.

As we progress, we will shift our attention to the art of letter writing. Students will have the opportunity to apply their writing skills in a different context, using letters to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

Students will explore the 'Magic e,' which transforms the pronunciation of words, adding an element of wonder to their spelling journeys. Additionally, students will dive into words ending with 'ed' (e.g., jumped, climbed), enabling them to master past tense verb forms. We look forward to seeing their writing skills and spelling prowess develop throughout these weeks.

Inquiry

Inquiry learning will continue to be captivating part of our curriculum during Weeks 7 and 8. In the coming weeks, we will gently introduce the concept of making a 'plan' for their Investigations sessions. This addition to the inquiry process will empower our students to approach their explorations with a more intentional mindset, helping them set goals, prioritise their tasks, and foster a sense of purpose in their session. We are excited to see our students' curiosity flourish and their inquiry skills strengthen as they take on this new element of Investigations!
