We have a number of exciting excursions planned for the remainder of the year! Parents and guardians, can you please respond to these events on Compass.

As we approach the final month of school, it is important for students to keep the momentum for routine, learning, and positive behaviours. Their final efforts, actions, and conduct will be remembered as part of their SEPS legacy. The teachers are busy writing end of year reports and gathering assessment data. We understand that sickness is inevitable, and absences are sometimes necessary. However, we would greatly appreciate if students would come to school every day possible, with a fully charged device in order to maximise the assessment period.

A friendly reminder that mobile phones are not permitted to be used by any student, on school grounds. Please do not ask your child to message or call you throughout the school day. Once your child is off site, they may use their phone.

English

The students have been diving deep into rich stories that highlight how different authors capture a reader's attention. The cohort have just finished studying a story called Circle by Jeannie Baker. The students were able to produce a story of their own about a migratory animal of their interest. These stories have been published into books for their Buddies.

Next up, the new mentor text is called 'Black Cockatoo by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler'. The story is about a young girl Mia and her brother John, set in the Australian Outback. Black Cockatoo delivers messages about family, connection, culture and hope. The story is located on the students' Teams. We encourage families to read it with your child and use the story as a way to explore different themes. Picture storybooks are a great way for people of all ages to tackle big concepts.

Maths

Level 6 have been consolidating their learning through revision of the Level 6 Numeracy Curriculum. Our focus has also been the introduction of number patterns and algebra. Over the next fortnight, we will practise our problem-solving skills through worded problems.

Science

Level 6 are learning about food waste and the rubbish produced in the food process. To support their learning, they are watching and discussing War on Waste videos. In week 8, level 6 students will walk to Sandringham Beach to conduct a litter audit. They will then take action based on their findings.

SEPS Idol

Wow, SEPS kids certainly have talent! Auditions were held during lunchtimes for two weeks and resulted in two finalists, per year level. On Tuesday 24th October our SEPS Idol judges had the difficult task of deciding on a winner per year. The entire school community was treated to a show that included dancing, singing and comedy. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Market Day

Our level 6 students worked for three months to plan their stalls for our annual Market Day. A dark and dull day, with strong winds and showers, lead to most stalls being run inside the stadium and the red brick building. Nevertheless, the school was abuzz with a festive fair atmosphere. Students were sprucing their wares, and the cacophony of happy laughs, eating and play was heard across the market. Level 6 students made a tidy profit, which will go towards their Graduation.

'i Sea, i Care' Excursion

On Wednesday 8th November, the Sustainability Captains attended the final excursion in their role as environment ambassadors for SEPS.

This event was hosted by the Dolphin Research Institute, at Ricketts Point. It provided our students with an opportunity to learn how to identify the source of rubbish on our beaches, and the impact litter has on our environment. Students also learned how much progress has been made in recent years as a result of community voices shining.

The highlight of the day was the Indigenous session. Lionel from "Living Cultures" shared his knowledge about how tools were made, and the way native plants were used for medicine and food.
