Connect: Level 4

Thursday 16th Nov - Science Incursion - please give permission on Compass!

Week 7 and 8

Literacy

In Literacy over the next two weeks we are revising the /yew/ sound box with the spelling choices ew;ue;eu;u-e and completing the South Australian Spelling Test. We complete the SAST in June and November. We will finish our learning of persuasive texts by looking at Greta Thunburg's United Nations speech and analyse the persuasive devices she used to convince her audience. We will then start a unit of work on Poetry to finish the year.

Students will also be completing online assessments and a hand written Cold Write.

In Numeracy

In the upcoming two weeks, our students will revisit essential concepts covered throughout the year. This period of preparation is in anticipation of upcoming assessments, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. During this revision phase, our focus will be on reinforcing our strategies for multiplicative thinking, a crucial skill that empowers us to work with numbers in a more complex and efficient manner. We will also delve into the world of place value, honing our ability to partition, rearrange, and regroup numbers, extending our proficiency to numbers in the tens of thousands. Additionally, students will revisit concepts related to fractions and decimals, deepening their comprehension and mastery of these fundamental mathematical principles.

To ensure a smooth and productive assessment period, we kindly request that all students have their laptops charged and ready to go

In Wellbeing

We are learning to look at problems from different perspectives and coping by asking ourselves a range of questions - is my problem as big as I think it is? Who can help me solve the problem? Who can support me when things gets tough? We will also revise our learning on Empathy and trying to understand the views and opinions of other people.

What we have been doing in Level 4...

Students have enjoyed learning about their health and well-being, covering topics such as nutrition, how to best fuel our bodies, hydration, the importance of physical activity, and the various enjoyable ways to stay active.

Students have also continued to work on their division skills, building on their strategies and applying these skills in practical situations.
