Principal's Message

Kerry Manders

Dear Parents and Carers,

In the global context, discussions regarding the value of leaders are a common occurrence, and we have a strong leader in our own, Pope Francis.  I often look to his speeches and work for inspiration, and today I saw his definition of good leadership is the generation of other leaders.

And in my capacity as leader of our College, like Pope Francis, I firmly believe in the importance of nurturing the growth of strong, servant leaders who offer the ability to inspire, influence, dialogue and collaborate with others. It is these fundamental skills that ultimately contribute to the betterment of educational standards within Catholic Education.

As many people within our community would be aware, our College is recognised within the Cairns Diocese as a fertile ground for developing exceptional leaders.

Within the last twelve months, Wayne Wood, Alison Krause, Leah McBryde, and Andrea O'Grady have all earned permanent leadership promotions, either within our College or the wider Cairns Diocese.

Additionally, Janelle Santolin was recently seconded to CES, and last week, James Roberts was seconded to an acting Principal role, also within our Diocese.

While their absence is, and will be, felt within our community, we wholeheartedly celebrate their well-deserved successes and invaluable contributions made to our community.

As we move forward with the remainder of the year, please be assured, I am unwavering in my commitment to finishing the year on a great note.

For the remainder of 2023, I can confirm the College Leadership Team will consist of strong, collaborative, servant leaders, who are dedicated to providing the highest standards of educational leadership at St Mary's Catholic College.

Should you like to discuss the leadership changes within our College, please reach out via my email below.

God bless,

Kerry
