Around the Junior School
Water Safety Session in Pre-Kinder
This week we had a visit from Kerrie who works for Royal Lifesaving Services. She came in to talk with the children about water safety. Kerrie was able to give the children some very important tips on how to stay safe when playing in and around water at home, in a swimming pool and even the beach when on holidays. Kerrie shared a story with the class that was able to tie in all the information and sang a song to help the children remember to always keep an adult nearby when at the beach.
Debating
The Orange Schools Debating Competition continues to thrive in Term 4. Organised by Kinross, this gives our Junior debaters an opportunity to compete against the teams of other schools in the local area in person, building their public speaking skills and forging new friendships.
In week 2 the teams competed against Orange Christian School on the topic 'Competitive sports should be played in primary schools.' Both sides worked hard at preparing for the debate and we came out with one win and one loss.
This debate follows on from a busy week for the teams, with their participation in the IPSHA Gala Debating Day at Macarthur College in Sydney in Week 1 being a highlight of the year. This was another opportunity to receive useful feedback and hone in on the skills of speech writing and rebuttals. The teams performed exceptionally well and were great ambassadors for our school.
