Boronia Group Term 4, 2023

Yvonne, Alyson, Anne and Rex.

We are already halfway through the final term of the year, how quickly the year has flown by!

At the start of term 4, we welcomed back the children to kindergarten and there was great excitement within the group. All the children have grown and developed socially and emotionally throughout the year.

During our final term together, we are continuing to work on our self-independence skills; packing our bags, learning to take care of belongings and our kindergarten.  The children in the Boronia group have continued to share and develop their enthusiasm for hands-on, sensory exploration and learning by doing, making and creating.  Learning that sometimes we have to give something another try, if we don’t succeed the first time.

As part of their learning this term, the children have started to learn to acquire the skills to share ideas, spaces and negotiate how to use the same play spaces, tools and toys as others. We have continued to build on the children’s interests this term – measurement; community helpers; insects; dance and movement. Looking at the length of items using our water bottles as inspiration, prompted the idea of using the string to measure ourselves and using the stacking cubes to measure the pretend dinosaur bones. This extended into counting out the number of cubes.  We used our scooping skills to scoop out our large pumpkin. Extending measuring by estimating which of the pumpkin’s were heavier, had more seeds and what will happen when we planted the seeds.  Linking this back to community helpers and discussions about where our food comes from, how we can look after our environment and what we can do with our food scraps.

Our creative skills have been continuing to emerge. Baking, drawing, cutting, creating, pasting and painting using a range of provocation inspirations from both the natural and man-made environments – masks, flowers, leaves, trees, pumpkins, story books, community helper pictures. Working on developing and promoting our language and communication skills through songs, storytelling, imaginative role play and scavenger hunts. Have you noticed the different shapes and colours around us in the environment? Taking the lead from the children we used the scavenger hunts as a way of solving the mystery of where things are within the kinder and working together with our peers.

As we head into the final few weeks of term 4, our exploration into learning and discovering the world around us will continue to be inspired by the children’s interests.

A few housekeeping reminders as we continue through Term 4:

  • Clothing: Layering is ideal. It assists with the differing temperatures. (Please label their clothing)
  • An adequate number of changes of clothes and a pair of shoes that are labelled for those days when we get extra messy or wet during play. (Please pop a plastic bag into their bag to send home any wet clothing.)
  • Illness – If your child is sick, please keep them home until they are well to return to kindergarten.
  • Stay and play – if you would like to come and stay for a short play with your child during one session, please let me know.
  • Additional Authorised Persons: If you have additional authorised persons to collect children / new contact details, please let us know so that these can be updated accordingly.
