From the Acting Principal

Term 4 Week 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

All school families will have received an email last Friday outlining some structural and educational focus changes for 2024. Most of the great programs we have been running over many years will still be happening in 2024. Thanks to the couple of families that had questions about our class structure for 2024 who contacted me for a chat. As always, I welcome the opportunity to talk to all members of the community about what is happening at school. I encourage parents to contact me directly at any time should you have any questions.

As Melbourne Cup Day is fast approaching I would like to take this opportunity to remind families that Monday 6th of November is a school closure day. Hopefully this extended Cup weekend break provides an opportunity for the students to recharge their batteries and be ready to tackle the last five weeks of the school year.

Prep 2024

The first of our 2024 Prep Transition sessions will be Wednesday 8th of November. On this day we welcome all our new Preps to school for the morning. This will be the first of 3 sessions where they get the chance to explore the learning spaces of the school and meet their teacher for next year Mrs. Barbara Cumming. While the children work with Barbara, the parents will be attending an information session with the school leaders. The 2024 Preps will be back for two more morning visits on 15/08 and 22/08. So if you see new faces around the school, please make them feel welcome.

Events

Today the children were asked to wear a touch of red to school and bring a gold coin donation to support fundraising for the Day for Daniel. For those who don’t know the story behind the Daniel Morcombe, I encourage you to visit the link  https://danielmorcombe.com.au/day-for-daniel/

Last week we held an emergency evacuation practice on Tuesday. This is the second one in a fairly short space of time and it showed as the students were very organised and calm as they exited the buildings and headed for our onsite evacuation point in the top far yard.

This week,  Year 3/4 had their excursion to the Melbourne Museum on Monday and the Preps headed off on Wednesday on their ‘Walking Around Eltham’ excursion looking at services in the community.

We were treated to a wonderful music concert on Tuesday the 24th October in the school hall. It was great to see so many parents able to attend to watch a mix of drumming, guitar, keyboard, singing and dance. Thanks to Jason, Michelle and Lawrence from 2 Dream Music, who provide the extracurricular program, for the great job they have done in providing this an opportunity for our students to perform and share their talents with our school community.

In upcoming events, we have the Preps Grandparents’ Day on Friday 3rd November and PFOL - Obstacle Course Run on Friday 10th of November. There are so many things on as we head toward the end of the year, make sure you keep an eye on the calendar and read the weekly newsletter.

Finally, a huge thank-you to our teachers as we celebrate World Teachers’ Day today. I know how grateful our parents and students are for all the extra things our teachers and staff do. If you have the opportunity, it is always welcomed to send your child’s teacher a message of appreciation.

Regards,

Mark Pinkerton

Acting Principal
