FROM THE PRINCIPAL

"Many Wolves .... One Pack"

Term 4 - Week 6

Written by Mia Scott - 'Principal for the Day'

As principal, it is your job to supervise the school and all of its tasks. On Tuesday the 14th of November, I was fortunate enough to have the lucky experience of being ‘Principal for the Day.’ Alongside Mr Clery, I was able to help lead the school. In the morning, I assisted Mr Clery in greeting the students into school. Lots of beautiful children greeted me with a smile and a high-five. After the school day had commenced, I was taken on a Learning Walk around the Hive and was overwhelmed with the incredible work both Kindergarten and Year 1 were doing. At 9.30, I was allowed to do Guided Reading with Kindergarten, we worked in our booklets and played a game of Jango.

Afterward, I was lucky enough to have a meeting with Mr Clery about the ideas for the school that I have that would enhance and improve the school. I felt it was important to have a say. Mr Clery liked my ideas with a few adjustments. I am so very thankful for the opportunity of getting to share my voice.

As the morning went on, I was lucky enough to have a MAST check in with Mrs Trish Mitchell from the Catholic Schools Office as well as Mr Tim Unwin. I was able to give my opinions as well as other teachers' opinions on how our MAST program has improved our school.  I was able to give some feedback and positive attributes the program has done for the school.

Mrs Doyle and I completed guiding Reading with Year 1. I was so very lucky to have the opportunity to talk to the Year 1 students about their learning and what they were doing. We completed our worksheets and my visit was drawn to a close. Soon enough, 1st Break had befallen us.

At 11:20, I was very lucky and got to have playground duty with Mrs Hughes in the Undercroft. Lots of fun games and smiles were shared at breaktime. Soon, it was time for me to have a meeting with Miss Maxwell (Year 2 Teacher) and the Year 1 team (Mrs Sedon, Mrs Single, Miss Geddes) alongside Mrs O’Sullivan and Mrs Doyle. We discussed learning opportunities and checked in with the teachers.

Soon enough, a second break had already arrived. I was able to say hello to my friends and go downstairs for a quick break. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to sit with the teachers at lunch. After the second break, Mrs Daley and I went for a learning walk around The Hub and The Zone. I was able to further my knowledge of the learning environments and what each student was doing.

I also assisted Mrs Grady in the Stores order for 2024. I was able to see the amount of stationary and cost that is put into our schools orders. Sadly, the day was drawn to a close. I am so very thankful for the wondrous opportunity I had as Principal for the day. When I was selected for Principal for the Day, I wanted to learn more about what it was like to be a Principal. With this experience, I have understood the meaning of what it is like to be a principal.

I can now see how much effort and passion Mr Clery puts into his job. Without him, our school would fall apart. I would also like to thank Mrs Daley and Mrs Dunst for enabling me to have this experience as Principal for a Day, and to Aggie Daly and Liam Gallagher (Yr 5 students) for being part of the interview panel. I loved the experience and would gladly do it again. I am so very pleased that I was able to be put into the shoes of Mr Clery.

Have a wonderful week.

Kind Regards,

Mia Scott
