Numeracy
All you need to play these games is a deck of cards. Build your maths skills and have some fun at the same time!
Let’s Make 10 (2 Players)
- Remove the Jack, Queen, King and Joker from the deck.
- Shuffle the cards and place 12 cards face up.
- Players take turns to find combinations of cards which add to 10. You can use as many cards as needed, as long as they add up to 10. When players make 10, they score a point.
- The player with the most points wins the round! If no more combinations can be made, shuffle the cards and start again.
Toss and Add (2 players)
- Shuffle the cards.
- Divide the deck equally amongst both players, face down. Each player should have the same amount of cards.
- Players take turns to choose 3 unseen cards and toss them up in the air.
- When they land, the player adds the cards that have landed face up. In this game, the Jack = 11, the Queen = 12, the King = 13 and the Joker = 14. Record this number down. Each time players have a turn, they add to the value of their cards.
- After all cards are tossed and added, the player with the largest value in total is the winner.
Over or Under (2 players)
- Remove the Jack, Queen, King and Joker from the deck.
- Shuffle the cards and divide equally between the two players. Each player should have the same amount of cards face down in front of them.
- Before turning the cards, player 1 choses if they think the answer will be ‘Over 50’ or ‘Under 50’. Player 2 will be the opposite. So if player 1 choses ‘Over 50’, player 2 is ‘Under 50’.
- At the same time, both players pick and flip a card from their deck.
- Both players then multiple the numbers on each card together. The answer will be over or under 50.
- If the answer to the multiplication is ‘Over 50’, that player gets a point or vice versa if the answer is ‘Under 50’. Play multiple rounds to see who the overall winner is!
