Term 1 Week 6

Parent/Carer Phonogram Course Expression of Interest

In Term Two, we will be running our very popular Family Phonogram Course again. It is open to all parents/carers in Kinder and the Primary School and will run over three Thursdays - 2nd, 9th and 16th of May.

The three sessions will help you to understand our whole school Reading and Writing program and learn more about the way we teach your child to read and write.

These sessions are particularly valuable for Foundation parents and we also highly recommend kinder and school families new to the school to attend the program. The program will also be open to parents of students entering the school in 2025 and we encourage you to come along and learn about the program.

We ask that those attending commit to attending all three sessions as each session leads into the next. Unfortunately, the course is designed for adults and is therefore not suitable for students or younger siblings to attend.

Please complete the Google Form, linked below, to express your interest in attending this year's Family Phonogram Program.

Hats

Students must wear a hat for all outdoor activities from the 1st August to 30th April. The ideal is for students to have a hat stay at school - make sure it is named, and one in their school bag. We do not want students missing out on PE, outdoor learning, including the Kitchen Garden program or play times. We have a limited supply of spare hats that can be borrowed for PE and are washed weekly. Unfortunately, if your child does not have a hat they will need to play or stay in the shade or covered areas.

From our Sunsmart Policy: From mid-August (exact date to be set by the school annually) to 30 April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. Hats may also be worn for all outdoor activities outside of the August to April time period, by parent or student choice.

Students are required to wear a school hat or another hat style that protects the face, neck and ears when outdoors, for example broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket. Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothingor a hat may be asked to play in the shade or in a suitable area protected from the sun.

School Photos

This year our whole school photo day will be held on Wednesday 1st May 2024. A email has been sent out on how to purchase photo packages.

Asking for help?

We would like to advertise our Open Day and tours for the Kinder and School using boards prepared by an estate agent. Is there anyone in our community who would be prepared to have a board located at their property or does anyone know of a place that would be prepared to support us by having a board up. If you do please contact Louise in Reception, we would be most grateful.

Spotlight on “Safe” from our Vision Photo from student voice wall.

Students have been developing their own Helping Hand poster - this allows them to think about the people in their lives they can go to for help. When they feel unsafe, uncomfortable and/or want to talk through something that is concerning them they can approach the people on their Helping Hand poster.

Students are adding their ideas to the Student Voice Wall  about their Helping Hand.

Sexual Health Victoria

A huge thank you to Athi our presenter from Sexual Health Victoria. Athi presented to all staff around the program that will be delivered to the 5/6 students over the coming weeks and then also ran a parent information evening. We had 59 families join the zoom and they also heard about the program and the importance of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) for students. RSE is part of the Victorian Curriculum, mandated through the Child Safe Standards and compulsory for Victorian Government Schools.

The student sessions will run on 13, 20 and 27 March with the focus being on interactive classroom activities and open discussion. Students are encouraged to contribute and will be given honest, age- and developmentally appropriate answers to their questions.

Foundation Information Night

Year 1-6 students have their Three Way Conferences with their parents and classroom teachers next week. Foundation families have been sent out a form to gather any questions they have that will be answered at our Information Night on Thursday 14th March at 6.30pm. Following the presentation by the Foundation teachers we will visit the classrooms and parents/carers will have an opportunity to view their child's work.

NAPLAN Begins

Students and teachers have done the preparation ready for Naplan which begins next week with the Writing assessment on Wednesday 13th March.

We have all the Parent Reps for each class for 2024. Thank you to all our volunteers and for setting up the What’s App groups. If you haven't received the details on your class chat, please let Leonie Semmens our P&F coordinator know at mprps.pf@gmail.com.
