SAVE THE DATE!

2024 ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE BALL

All Year 9–12 students are invited to attend the 64th Annual St Joseph’s College Ball at an earlier date and a new venue:

The evening of Friday 31 May at Club Da Vinci!

This year's theme is ‘Enchanted Forest’ – imagine spending an evening in a whimsical realm where magic and fairy tales come to life...

Entry to Club Da Vinci will be from the service road off Deakin Avenue just past the Fifteenth Street roundabout. Doors will open at 7:15pm. The Ball commences at 7:30pm and concludes at 10:30pm. Doors will close at 8:00pm sharp, and there will be no late entry granted to students.

We ask that parents make arrangements to pick up students from 10:15pm and not earlier.  For safety reasons, students will not be permitted to leave the venue during the course of the evening. Furthermore, in the interest of safety and traffic management, entry to Club Da Vinci for drop-off and pick-up will be closely monitored. One-way traffic movement will be managed as per road rules. (More information will be available closer to the date regarding safety and traffic management.)

The College Ball is a formal style dance. As such, certain standards of formal dress and appropriate behaviour apply. This is an alcohol- and drug-free event. Any students suspected of being under the influence will be set aside and parents will be contacted as required. Security personnel will be employed on the night to assist staff with supervision.

Students, please take particular note of the following:

  • FORMAL ATTIRE will be strictly enforced. Boys – smart pants, shirt with collar, tie & jacket (optional); Girls – modest evening wear.
  • Behaviour and conduct should reflect the college's values as they would on any given school day.
  • Wearing casual/sport footwear is not acceptable.
  • Supper will be provided on the night as part of the ticket cost.
  • Bottled Water and cans of soft drinks will be sold on the night. There will also be free iced-water available.

Tickets will go on sale at the start of May and will be available from the Student Office at recess and lunchtime as well as before and after school until 3:45pm. The cost will be $25.00 for single student tickets and $40.00 for family tickets (two or more students who are siblings). The exact date tickets will go on sale will be advised in the morning bulletin, via Audiri and Instagram, and via direct email to students.

We encourage all students to attend with a positive attitude and to expect the unexpected. Get ready for a memorable, magical night of dancing and fun!

SECONDARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

On 29 February a group of students from Years 7–12 travelled to Adelaide to attend the Secondary Youth Leadership Conference.

Following a rest stop at Waikerie to stretch our legs and have lunch, we continued to Glenelg. We arrived at 7:30pm and had dinner at Mama Carmela’s. Afterwards, everyone spent the evening wandering down the beach, taking a ride on the Ferris Wheel, visiting the adventure park, and walking on the jetty. Some of us woke up very early in the morning to go to the beach which we were lucky to have access to at our doorsteps.

The Conference was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, where we learnt new leadership skills, and some of us were able to refine their leadership skills through interactions and learning from each other. This included:

  • Listening to guest speakers on their experiences with leadership
  • Listening to young entrepreneurs and their stories of achieving their dreams
  • Participating in icebreaker activities, meeting, and networking with new people from different schools in South Australia
  • Learning and refining skills relating to leadership
  • Q&A with the guest speakers.

A big thank you to Mrs Morrison for organising the trip for us. It was both beneficial and fun, and we recommend it to any students in the future.

Also, thank you to both Mr Parker (for driving the bus the whole trip), and Mr McClaer.

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

If your child requires any medication to be taken whilst at school, it is important that the College Nurse is aware. We ask that a Medication Authority form is completed and returned to the college, along with the required medication in its original packaging. If it is prescription medication, it should have the pharmacy instruction label included.

All student medication must be stored in the First Aid Office, and students are to attend the First Aid Office when requiring their medication. Self-storage and administration of medication is not advisable as it can potentially create unsafe access to and misuse of medications by other students.

Please find attached the St Joseph’s College Medication Management and Administration Policy as well as a blank Medication Authority Form PDF for you to download, complete, and return to me, if necessary.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via phone during office hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, or by email: lclohesy@sjcmda.vic.edu.au
