PRINCIPAL'S FAREWELL

FAREWELL

I would like to acknowledge our Principal's, Mrs Blythman’s, contribution to the college over the last eight and a bit years.

It really has been a very significant contribution. In fact, none of our current students have known a different Principal at St Joseph’s College.

Mrs Blythman has been the driving force behind numerous changes and initiatives that have left an indelible mark on our college. I would like to acknowledge and celebrate the many accomplishments that have defined her time at St Joseph’s College.

Mrs Blythman began her Principalship in 2016, and she immediately embarked on a mission to enhance the physical beauty of our college, creating gardens at the front that reflect the nurturing environment she aimed to foster within our grounds. She oversaw the implementation of a maintenance program, ensuring that our facilities were not only aesthetically pleasing but also well-maintained. Mrs Blythman’s vision extended to the entrance of the college, where the Mercy cross was paved, serving as a constant reminder of our values.

Focusing on security and safety, she introduced staff electronic passes, a staff dress code, and an administration uniform, promoting a sense of professionalism among the college staff.

The establishment of a cohesive media presence showcased Mrs Blythman’s innovative approach to branding, evident in the bold and creative representation of our college across many mediums.

She also revamped the library, executive offices, and various other spaces, creating environments conducive to learning and growth.

In 2017, Mrs Blythman’s commitment to excellence continued with the provision of computers for staff and a computer program for students. Uniform standards were elevated, and the introduction of the Virtue Conquers Awards highlighted the importance of character development. Mrs Blythman’s focus on wellbeing was evident in the creation of an expanded wellbeing team, wellbeing rooms, values booklets, and guidelines for students.

The year 2018 saw further enhancements, including blazers, a new Positions of Leadership structure, and a dedicated PE office. The revitalised staff room and the establishment of 'Cecilia's Room' at the Mercy Campus showcased her commitment to the welfare of both students and staff at both campuses.

Amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 in 2020, Mrs Blythman’s leadership shone through, as she showed adaptability, innovation, and a commitment to do whatever she could to enable learning to continue. During Covid she also took steps to ensure the wellbeing of all community members including the provision of community meals during the pandemic.

Additionally, Mrs Blythman oversaw the creation of new year level camps at Years 7, 9, and 10. There has also been the update of the reception area, and Mrs Blythman has addressed the evolving needs of students with the Student Academic Learning Agreement.

The subsequent years witnessed Mrs Blythman’s unwavering commitment to progress, with refurbishments, collaborations with sister schools, and initiatives like the Rainbow Alliance.

One development that has been particularly dear to Mrs Blythman’s heart has been the refurbishment of the former convent into the Mercy Heritage Centre, culminating in its opening in 2022. The Mercy Heritage Centre provides a strong and permanent reminder of the role the Mercy Sisters have played not only at our college but also in the wider community.

Under her guidance, St Joseph's College has thrived, and enrolments strongly reflect this. A waiting list for students to enrol in 2024 is a testament to the positive impact she has had on our college.

Mrs Blythman, your legacy is one of innovation, high expectations, and excellence. You have not only shaped the physical landscape of our college but also fostered an environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually. As you retire, know that you leave behind a significant legacy.

On behalf of the entire St Joseph's College community, I extend our deepest gratitude for your years of service, your leadership, and your commitment to the values that define our college. May your retirement be filled with joy, fulfillment, and the knowledge that your legacy will continue.

Thank you, Mrs Blythman, for everything. May your journey ahead be as remarkable as the one you've guided us through.
