LEARNING DIVERSITY

Thank-you to all parents who have attended Program Support Group Meetings. We have had such valuable conversations. Ms Teagan Saleta and I will endeavour to address any actions as discussed. Many students mentioned they would love support with their study and memory skills, particularly in relation to the transfer of new information in deep memory. I have now put together a help sheet to provide some guidance about these important life skills. I will give these out to students soon, primarily our Year 9–10 students. If you think this might be helpful for your child, please let me know.

Personal Learning Plans have been released to parents and are available in PAM under ‘Assessments’. You can click on your child’s picture and use the drop-down menu to find this heading. Please communicate with Teagan or myself if you would like to discuss the plans further. You can also contact teachers directly to discuss the goals set.

RURAL CONNECT PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

Each Year I have a number of parents ask about referrals to a variety of services including psychological services. A program I have recently become aware of is specifically for people who live rurally through Rural Health Connect, linked to the Ballarat campus of Federation University. The website says:

'Provisional Psychologist Pilot'

A new pilot with Federation University, supported by the Victorian Government,

providing a direct, free of charge, link to a provisional psychologist without needing to see your GP for a mental health care plan. Provisional psychologists are students in their 5th and 6th years of study who are gaining their final experience before registration. All provisional psychologists complete regular sessions with board approved supervisors.

This service is a method of early intervention for children, adolescents, and adults who notice signs that they may not be functioning at their best. If you have a diagnosed mental illness, please speak to your GP about what would be the best service for you. This pilot is for people in rural and regional Victoria only.

THE NATIONAL CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA (NCCD)

The NCCD for students with disabilities guides and shapes the way I engage with the collection of information across the year. The NCCD provides retrospective funding to the school to enable support programs, learning support officers, and other resources to help students. Parents who are unfamiliar with the Census, which provides funding for students with disabilities to the school each year, can find information about the NCCD belowand also on the NCCD website www.nccd.com.
