Year 1 & 2

Around our level

This fortnight in History lessons students have been learning about the history of the telephone. They have compared modern mobile phones to rotary phones. Mrs James brought in a rotary phone from home and students tried to work out how to dial numbers on it!

In Reading lessons, students have been using the word mats to build words in UFLI phonics lessons. We read “Diary of a Rescued Wombat” and revised the months of the year, as well as giving a recount of what happened in our birthday month.

For Writing lessons students have written recounts about their weekend and continued to learn how to expand sentences by including more detail by using describing words. This week we have started some imaginative narrative writing.

In Maths lessons students have been working with MAB blocks, hundreds charts and tens frames to further their understanding of place value. We have just started our Addition and Subtraction topic. On Fridays students have been learning about pictographs and bar graphs by plotting the class birthdays on a bar graph.

For Wellbeing lessons students have further explored our school values of kindness, safety, and respect. Students listened to a story that explores what it means to fill someone’s bucket with kind words and actions. Students have decorated their own ‘buckets’ and can choose a ‘kindness’, ‘safety’, or ‘respect’ star to drop in a classmate’s bucket when they have shown these values.

Students were asked the following question - How do you fill someone’s bucket?
