Prep

On Tuesday 27th of February there was an Open Night/Information Night for Year 1-6 families from 4.30-6.30pm. It was great to have parents visit their children’s classrooms and to hear about some of the exciting learning opportunities.

On Thursday 29th of February the Prep Families attended our Prep Picnic at Warrien Reserve. It was a wonderful opportunity for new parents to the school to meet up in a relaxed setting and to have a chat with the Prep teachers, Mr Darby and Mrs James and for the chance for students to meet up and mix and play with other classmates.

In Reading and Writing we have commenced the UFLI lessons. Our focus has been on the short vowel ‘a’ as in apple and the letter ‘m’. Students have been introduced to heart words (a, the, said). The children have been practising making these on their word walls and writing these words on a whiteboard and recognising them by sight. This week we have been learning about the letter ‘s’ and ‘t’ and the word ‘I’.

In Maths, we have been making groups, matching groups, matching numerals and words and learning the days of the week through songs and games. We read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and a ‘Diary of a Wombat’ to further support our learning of the days of the week. This week we have been learning about position and location words. We visited the playground to demonstrate our understanding of ‘on, under, next to, in front, behind, through and between.

In History, we have been learning about different family structures and drawing pictures of our own family.

In Geography, we have been learning about natural and made features.
