2025 Prep Tours

We're excited to announce that Prep tours for the year 2025 have officially kicked off! This is a wonderful opportunity for families to explore our school facilities, meet our staff and students, and learn more about the educational experience we offer at Yarra Road Primary School. If you know of friends or relatives who are considering enrolling their child in Prep for the upcoming academic year (2025), please encourage them to book a tour. They can secure their spot and begin the enrolment process starting from Term 2. We look forward to welcoming new faces into our school community.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy)

NAPLAN assessment for our Year 3 and 5 students will take place in Weeks 7 & 8, with assessments in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Our students will be very well prepared and we look forward to receiving individual and cohort results in due course.

Bunnings BBQ

The Parents' Association (PA) is in full swing, orchestrating various initiatives to enhance our school community. I'll be lending a hand at this weekend's Bunning’s BBQ on Saturday, a fantastic fundraiser organised by the PA. This event promises not only to deliver breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea sausages to the community but also an opportunity to contribute to the betterment of our school. Over the past two years, funds raised by the PA have been instrumental in improving our students' play spaces, including the installation of down ball courts and pavement games in 2022. Last year, the funds were allocated towards covering the cost of resurfacing the basketball court, (once it has been reasphalted). This year, the focus remains on enhancing our school's facilities, particularly addressing the shortfall in the resurfacing of the basketball court. There are still some remaining spots if you have a spare couple of hours this Saturday. Your support in this activity would be greatly appreciated.

Basketball court update

The reasphalting of our basketball courts is progressing well (despite the lack of work on-site). Following final measurements and photos taken by contractors on Wednesday, work is set to begin on the 15th and should be completed within a few days. I have also signed and agreed to the ‘Access Agreement’ permitting a handover of the courts to the contractors.

Upon completion, the courts will lack traditional line markings, as we've opted for rubber tiles with embedded lines for durability and safety. Additionally, thanks to valuable feedback from Kaylea R. in Year 5, we're advocating for repainting the lines on the netball/basketball court (bottom court). I've negotiated with the company managing this project to consider this adjustment, so that instead of the lines being painted on new asphalt and then covered with tiles, our bottom court gets a facelift as well. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Kaylea's suggestion is agreed to. Her proactive engagement reflects the spirit of our school community, where every voice matters.

Further updates will follow as the project progresses. Thank you for your continued support.

Ride to School Day

This year we will be participating in National Ride2School Day on Friday March 22nd. National Ride2School Day is the perfect opportunity for students and school communities across Australia to embrace a healthier start and to try riding and walking to school for themselves. Not only is active travel good for your health, it’s good for the environment too! Riding, walking, scooting or skating to school means there are fewer cars on the road.

It's sure to be a fantastic day and we look forward to seeing you there.
