Spanish
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the start of the new term. Here are some exciting updates from our Spanish program:
Prep Students: Our youngest learners have been having a blast in Spanish class! They've been singing action songs and using finger puppets to master greetings and polite phrases like please and thank you. For the rest of the term, they'll be diving into new vocabulary including classroom commands, primary colours, and common shape names.
Year One and Two Students: These students have been impressing me with their listening and speaking skills! They enjoy singing action songs and practising mini conversations with their classmates. Students recently discovered that many Spanish first names can be sorted into masculine and feminine categories by looking at the final letter such as ‘o’ for boys’ and ‘a’ for girls’ names. They did an amazing job working in pairs to sort Spanish name tags into boy and girl categories.
Year Three and Four Students: Our Year Three and Four students have been busy learning to express their likes and dislikes using action verbs and creating simple sentences. Last week they showed they have excellent listening skills as they listened carefully to identify verb words during a whole class games of word Bingo. They've also been enjoying singing songs to help them remember different greetings and are making great progress!
Year Five and Six Students: The seniors have been shining in their Spanish lessons! They've mastered numbers up to 31 and the months of the year, allowing them to engage in conversations about birthdays. They're enthusiastic participants, and I'm so proud of their hard work.
Throughout our Spanish lessons, students have been displaying the PROUD values each week, particularly showing a willingness to be open-minded and daring. It's been wonderful to witness their growth in these areas.
For the remainder of the term, all students will be diving into the theme 'My Classroom'. Through games, songs, and hands-on activities, they'll learn to communicate about the things we use and do in the classroom.
Thank you for your continued support of our Spanish program. I'm thrilled to see our students embracing language learning with such enthusiasm!
