Grade 5 - 6
Reading Grade 5 6 students have been exploring “The Stone Lion” by Margaret Wild. Students have been exploring different tier 2 words, analysing their use in the text and applying their knowledge of these words in different contexts. Classroom discussions of the text have been centred around the inner conflict the Stone Lion experiences with wanting to come alive to help the other characters of the story. Fluency paris have continued this term with students reading the same passage of reading to a partner, focusing on improving their ability to read fluently.
Writing Narratives have been the major focus for the last two weeks, which has paired superbly with students' study of “The Stone Lion”. Students have been creating narratives while developing their use of figurative language, detailed planners and using descriptive vocabulary to show the reader what's happening in their narrative rather than tell. Daily chances have been provided to students to grow or consolidate their understanding and application of sentence structures in their daily review activities. Smashing job Grade 5/6s! Numeracy Numeracy continues to be the loud and robust part of student learning daily, with students' passion and competitiveness often on display during the play of our variety of maths games and challenges! Students have also been completing “Do now” activities as part of their daily routine, where they enter the classroom and immediately engage in a numeracy problem, requiring them to use a strategy to solve. The focus for the last two weeks have been a mixture of multiples and factors, place value renaming and measurement characteristics!
