LEARNING SPACE 1 JUNIORS :  Keeping Safe!

In our Inquiry unit this Term, the Juniors in LS1 have been exploring ways that we can be safe at home, at school and in the community. We have been discovering ways to stay safe with food at home and school, and learning how people can make us feel safe and protect us. Also, we learnt about being safe with medicines at home.

Although medicines can make us feel better, sometimes they can make us very ill. If we take too much medicine, take the wrong kind of medicine, or take it when we don’t need it, we might get sick. We discussed how the most important way to stay safe around medicines is to know that children should never take, or even touch, medicines by themselves.

The Juniors took action to promote safety and wellbeing at home and school by creating some posters sharing some facts and rules that we can follow to make sure that we are maintaining safety and wellbeing when there are medicines around.

Some rules that the students came up with were:

  • Making sure that medicines are kept locked in a cupboard that children can’t reach.
  • Not taking or touching medicines by ourselves when we are sick. A trusted adult must give it to us! 🙂
  • Reminding our parents / carers / other trusted adults to make sure that when there are medicines around, they need to tightly close the lid after each use and put the medicine back out of reach from us.

Here are some pictures of the medicine safety posters we created!

Have a safe, and lovely weekend! 😄

SFS TWILIGHT SPORTS!!

What a great night!! Thank you to all the SFS staff for their support. We could not hold events like this without them. We would also like to thank Parents & Friends for cooking hundreds of sausages; the staff and students really appreciated their snack!! We would also like to thank the parents that assisted us to put up the marquees in the afternoon and then helped us to take them down at the end of the night.

A group of our Grade 6s demonstrated their leadership as they assisted with the Junior House Sports Competition. We had students helping lead the cheering with their Houses, returning students to their Houses after the races and preparing juniors for their races. Thank you to the Grade 6s!! We are very proud of you!!

It was a close competition and we would like to congratulate all the students and teachers in each House for a fantastic effort! Congratulations to Bosco for winning the House Sports Shield for 2024!! Well done! And a big congratulations to all Houses for their cheering!! Well done to MacKillop for winning the House Spirit Shield for 2024!

We would also like to congratulate Andi for winning the Grade 6 Gift. Andi will now have the opportunity to attend District Athletics to represent SFS. Other Senior students who came first in their running race will also have the opportunity to try out for District Athletics later in the year.

A big thanks to everyone for your support!

GRADE 6 BIKE EDUCATION

Next week our Grade 6's will continue their 2nd level of Bike Education: Pathways. They will continue their Pathways lessons out in our community. Students will need to bring their bikes and helmets to school Friday morning and leave in front of their Learning Space in the morning. If parents are dropping off bicycles, students are able to leave them in the bike shed for the duration of the program. If it is raining heavily, please leave bicycles at home.

For the remainder of the sessions students will be using the skills they have learnt, riding on pathways in the community. I would like to say a big thank you to the three parents that are assisting us with the Grade 6 Bike Ed Program. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

DIVISIONAL SWIMMING

WHOLE SCHOOL SPORTING EVENTS

AFL COME AND PLAY PROGRAM AT SFS

We have an exciting opportunity for your children. AFL Victoria are working closely with our local Junior Football Club and they are running a Come and Play Program at our school that focuses on providing a safe and inclusive introduction to AFL while learning about the basic skills of the game.

To provide this opportunity, there will be a FREE AFL Clinic run at St Francis De Sales on Wednesday March 27th from 3.30 – 4.30pm. Parent participation is encouraged and you will need to bring and remain with your child at the clinic, which will be run on our school oval.

All year levels are welcome to attend and to provide your child with this opportunity you will need to scan the QR Code on the flyer below and register your child.

Please note, your child does not need any special clothes and on the day they will be able to wear their sports uniform to school so that they can comfortably participate in the program. They will also need to bring their water bottle and hat.

This information has also been provided via Operoo.

I look forward to seeing many students and parents joining us for the Come and Play Program!

SFS CROSS COUNTRY

On the last day of term, which will be Thursday March 28th, the whole school will be involved in our traditional Cross Country which will be held at school. We will be looking for the winning House as well as the winners for each level in the Juniors and age group in the Seniors. We will also be identifying the Senior students who will qualify to attend District Cross Country in Term 2.

Please save the date so you can come and support your child. We will also be asking for parent assistance on the day. Remember to assist you must have a current Working with Children Check registered with the school office.
