From the Principal
It's lovely to be back in the seat after a short relieving stint as Principal at Bletchington PS, while their principal was on leave. Thanks to Ms Pritchard who relieved for me for the two weeks.
The term is flying past already and as I popped into classrooms last week, it was great to see students engaged in their learning and settling well into the year. Also, can I commend families on the way students present each day in uniform as this gives students a sense of belonging to our school.
Nearly all Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) meetings have taken place and I thank the teachers for writing these plans up and discussing the goals for the year with parents and carers. PLPs are important to help us set the direction for your child.
Sadly I and a group of staff attended the funeral of a dear staff member who was retired from our school, Ted Thornberry. Got to the Spotlight On section to read the tribute to Mr Thornberry.
I'm excited that we have such a bumper grape crop this year and hope to see you at the harvest today. The general assistants and largely Ian Cole have looked after the crop for many months and I thank them and the expert assistance we receive from Hedberg and Dan Shaw to ensure that we have such a great crop this year. It will be exciting to be able to provide more Tempranillo Rose to Dan Murphys for sale, with all profits returning to the school to fund projects for our students. If you haven't had a chance to try the end product, you might like to drop in and purchase a bottle or case to support the school.
NAPLAN commences this Wednesday and students from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be participating online. We know that the students will all give the tests their best go. Thanks to Stage 4 Leader, Mr Stephen Gross for organising NAPLAN this year.
Kindness is our theme this term and I wanted to thank the Wood family for donating so many toys last year at Christmas when they were fortunate enough to win a large raffle. Mr Chris Wood is a teacher and his wife Mrs Jodi Wood is a Support Officer at our school and their three boys attend local Orange schools. This was such a large act of kindness and many of our students benefited from this single act of giving to others.
As we start Week 7, I hope you enjoy the last of the warm weather and all that Autumn brings with its beautiful colours.
