A snapshot from the classrooms this fortnight

Kindergarten - Jacqueline Pribilovics

As part of our History unit, Kindergarten have been exploring how families celebrate, along with identifying cultural traditions associated with different celebrations. Last Friday, we celebrated the Lunar New Year festival.

During the day, the students were involved in a number of activities related to this celebration, including paper dragon making, dance and music, and calligraphy. These activities were designed to develop the students’ understanding of how different families in our community express their cultures through customs, celebrations, practices, symbols and traditions.

To add to the authenticity of the day, the children were invited to wear any traditional dress that they might own or can borrow or the colour red to symbolise good fortune.

Year 1 - Danielle McClure and Dianne Breen

What a busy fortnight we had in Year 1! From Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, to Lunar New Year celebrations! In between these events, there was a lot of learning happening in our classroom. Last week, Year 1 investigated the length of different objects. We enjoyed the challenge of measuring items and finding other objects that were bigger, smaller and about the same length.

Year 2 - Aoife Geraghty

Over the past two weeks, Year Two has been bustling with activity! In History, we've been delving into our family histories, while in Maths, we've been exploring calendars and the concept of time. We visited the church for our opening school mass and Ash Wednesday and we learned about the significance of Lent. Last Friday, we celebrated the Lunar New Year, adding another cultural experience to our repertoire!

Year 3 - Hannah Jory & Holley Giannikos

This term in Sport, Year 3 have been taking part in gymnastics lessons with Mr Simpson. Even though there were feelings of nervousness, excitement and uncertainty, Year 3 have persevered and shown incredible growth, strength and determination.  Gymnastics not only has many benefits including flexibility, balance and coordination but also works on cognitive development, social and emotional skills and discipline. Have a look at some of our fantastic gymnasts!

Year 4 - Bella Abruzzese

While preparing for Lent, Year 4 dove into the importance of ‘rules’ in everyday life. These enable us to sustain order and appreciate what we have. As Year 4 prepares for the season of Lent as a time to make sacrifices, we understand that the laws God made for us help us to love each other, and in turn we create laws and sacrifices during Lent to show Jesus how much we love him. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating posters on the laws and rules of activities that are important to them.

Year 5 - Anna Kelly

Every Tuesday afternoon, Year 5 have the opportunity to go to the library to browse, borrow and read. We are very lucky to have such a comfortable space and a great selection of books to choose from!

Year 6-  Laura Courtenay

In Year 6 this week, in Mathematics, we have been looking at Mass. We compared how accurately we can message a range of items using both analog and digital scales. We have also looked at converting between units of measurement, exploring and converting the mass of large mammals in our world.
