FRENCH

T1 2024

Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone!

Bienvenue to our Reception students and new families this year. I am very excited for my new role as French Teacher at Hackham East Primary, it has been a wonderful experience so far.

In our first lesson in the French classroom, students were able to explore the French classroom space and learn about this year’s routines and expectations. We took some time to learn about each other's culture and get to know each other. It has been so interesting to hear that a few students know some words in other languages. I love learning about the culture, values and traditions of the students at our school.

We are having a focus on working as a team and doing our personal best this year, with a particular emphasis on using our Courage to speak French. It is great to see that many of our students have remembered "how are you" in French and a few other key vocabulary words.

Moving into the term, our Castle students located France on a map, coloured in the French flag and have been introduced to some important aspects of French culture. Students then learnt and revised simple greetings, introducing themselves, colours and in the coming week will begin learning/revising numbers to 10. The students have begun listening tasks which involved watching Madeline and spotting as many French words that they could.

Holly classes have established our routines and expectations, looked at traditional and stereotypical French things and showed these on their front cover pages. They used a range of pictures that we provided as well as researching using ICT to find their examples.  The students will now be exploring greetings and goodbyes in France and around the world and begin learning the difference between formal and informal language. There is a focus on students building their confidence speaking simple sentences in French, with fun games and songs.

Stillwell students began the year learning some general knowledge about France and reflecting and revisiting on what they already know. This upcoming week they will be looking at the short film “Détour” to look at the landscape, clothing, recreational activities and everyday life across the country and in Southern France, Marseille. They will continue to learn about living in France compared to Australia through short films, books and cartoons, whilst also recognising the unique French humour and physical comedy we can observe within them.

Later in the term all classes will be learning about the celebration of Pâques (French Easter) and how French people traditionally celebrate the holiday.

I look forward to the coming year and sharing future learning with you all.

Merci! Madame Beddison
