Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3
Junior Sport Update
This Saturday will be the final round of Summer sport for Term 1. In many ways, it seems hard to believe that we have reached this point in the term and are looking firmly at the beginning of the Winter season. However, looking back it has been a jam-packed six weeks of sport. From trials, to Round 1, dealing with heat wave conditions and the odd torrential downpour, the boys have had a myriad of experiences this term. We wish all those competing this weekend all the best and hope that win, lose or draw all our teams finish with a polished performance. As Saturday 16 March is the last weekend of the Summer season, there will be no further training held after this weekend. All boys should be leaving school at the regular dismissal time after this weekend.
There have been many questions regarding the timing of the Junior School Winter Sport Trials. I am happy to confirm that the Junior School Winter Trials will occur on the following days:
Monday 25 March | 3:10 PM - 4:45 PM | Venues to be confirmed |
Saturday 6 April | 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM | Venues to be confirmed |
Monday 8 April | 3:10 PM – 4:45 PM | Venues to be confirmed |
Tuesday 9 April | 3:10 PM – 4:45 PM | Venues to be confirmed |
Wednesday 10 April | 3:10 PM – 4:45 PM | Venues to be confirmed |
All Winter sports will trial at these times at venues either at the College or a short walk away. Venues will be confirmed closer to the trial dates.
Junior School Cross Country Carnival
Tuesday was a great day for the Junior School Cross Country Carnival. With the sun shining, a clear blue sky and an energetic cohort of boys, the day was sure to be a success. With high temperatures forecast for the day, it was a blessing to be able to run early in the morning.
The course was challenging, weaving in and out of the College grounds and tested the boys’ resolve. Congratulations to all boys on their efforts to finish the race and raise money for those less fortunate.
Congratulations to our Age Champions for 2024:
- 10yrs – Jaidyn Shehadie (Berg)
- 11yrs – William Symonds (Hickey)
- 12yrs – Christian Piccin (Coghlan)
Special mention must go to Berg House for taking home the Cross Country Carnival trophy. This is the third year in a row that Berg has won this race, and they continue to show promise for years to come.
Congratulations
With the business of school life demanding much of the boy’s time, many of the boys in Junior School still find time to participate in additional activities. Not only do many boys participate, in many cases they excel. One such student is Antonio Taouk of 5 Black. Over the weekend, Antonio competed in the National Muay Tai Championships. Antonio fought hard against quality opponents and managed to come home with a gold medal. This win qualifies Antonio for the IFMA World Youth Championship which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand this September. We wish him all the best.
A reminder for boys and their families that now that cross country has concluded, boys should be collecting and handing in their Lenten fundraising money. Boys in Year 6 should be handing in their funds Thursday 14 March. While boys in Year 5, should hand their funds in on Monday 18 March. It’s not too late to raise an extra $5 or $10 for those less fortunate than us.
