Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

Students have further explored their units of inquiry over the last two weeks…

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to learn about their expressive skills (body movements, facial expressions, hand gestures and voice) and enjoyed using them in a Drama activity called ‘Greetings’ last week. This week, students are learning to apply their expressive skills to different characters in the well-known storybook ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Students enjoyed being Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and the Woodsman. Below are some photographs of FAM and FSH students in character…

Year One

The Year Ones began their linked unit of inquiry this week, which investigates the central idea ‘Curiosity leads to discovery’. Mandarin, Visual Arts and Performing Arts are working in-sync to explore Chinese Opera Masks. This week, students had an insight into the Chinese Opera and began creating their masks. We focused on using symmetry throughout their creations. We can’t wait to share some masks at assembly in the coming weeks.

Year Two

The Year Twos re-told the Fairy Tale ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ last week. They did a great job using their expressive skills to become different characters. This week, students started Fractured Fairy Tales. A Fractured Fairy Tale is when you introduce characters from one Fairy Tale story into another or when you change the story in an unexpected way. This immediately adds layers of complexity and entertaining new versions.

Year Three and Four

Year Three and Four students have chosen their Short Stage Play preferences and have begun rehearsal with their groups. It’s so great to see the students thinking about the Elements of Drama as they are rehearsing. In particular, where they position themselves on the stage.

Year Five and Six

Year Five and Six students are deep in their Clowning creative processes. Last week, students created their Big Entrance and Introduction. This week, students are working on building their Problem. Students have been having so much fun with this unit already. It’s great to see them adopt the personalities of the White Face and Auguste Clown.

Bye for now…
