Mandarin

大家好!

We are over halfway through the term and Pan Lao Shi and Wang Lao Shi have been having a great time starting our classroom learning with you all! The past couple of weeks we have continued with word study and started linking with classrooms to explore Mandarin.

Students in Foundation have been exploring words for you and me and practising language through peer interactions to link with their central idea of ‘Cooperation supports playful learning’.

Students in Year One have been learning about colours in Chinese in order to construct a Chinese Opera Mask that they will create in Visual Arts and use to perform in Performing Arts. This links with the Classroom as they explore themes with ‘Curiosity leads to discovery’.

Students in Year Two have been exploring modes of transport and linking Che within those words to link with ‘Transport systems connect communities’.

Students in Year Three have begun looking at different names for places in Mandarin and building their vocabulary to ask questions relating to directions. This links with the central idea ‘Communities respond to local needs’.

Students in Year Four have been exploring picture based Chinese characters that link habitats and animals together. Student will also be looking at how habitats and animals have been impacted in Chinese to tie in with the classrooms central idea of ‘Human actions impact the sustainability of living things’.

Students in Year Five have begun their unit ‘Energy is used to shape the world’ and have linked Dian (electricity) with different appliances and modes of power to create a base list of words to then further explore.

Students in Year Six have been exploring Dynasties and Emperors of China and creating timelines to see how the central idea ‘Systems support decision making’ was applied in ancient China.
