Year One

Maths in Year One

In Year One we are inquiring into place value. We began by exploring different ways to group and count objects. This has led us to thinking about and sharing efficient strategies for grouping and counting. Next, we moved onto recognising that ten ones makes one ten and we have now begun exploring the multiples of ten. While doing this, the concepts have been coming to life through hands-on experiences with unifix blocks and icy-pole sticks.

As we move further into the unit, we will begin to make, name and record numbers to consolidate 2-digit place value.
