We have had a slow start to the canteen this year but we are back on track and will be opening the canteen tomorrow on 7/3/2024. The items available are in the image below along with their prices. If your child wishes to purchase one of our items, with your permission, they must bring their money to school and keep it in their bag until the canteen is on. Our prices range from $0.50-$3.00.

International Women's Day - 8th March

Hi, we are Millie and Heidi from 6M, bringing the lowdown on International Women's Day 2024.

International women's day is celebrated globally on the 8th of March each year. It is a day where women are commemorated for their accomplishments and are recognised for all the amazing things they have done in the past, overcoming the inequity that still exists today.

This year the theme is “inspire inclusion”. It emphasises the importance of inclusivity, urging individuals to step up and move past the stereotypes that females are less important than males.

On Friday 8th March we encourage everyone to wear purple in acknowledgment of how awesome women are. Students will also learn more about this in their classes over the week. Please remember to remind your kids of this :)

Thanks everyone!

Ride2School and Harmony Day 22nd March

Friday 22nd March

Ride2School is a nationwide program that enables students to get physically active on their journey to school.

This Year's event coincides with Harmony Day. Students are encouraged to wear orange in acknowledgment of the day.

Who: All APS students

What

  1. Ride, scoot or walk to school. If you usually drive we encourage your family to park further away to increase your active journey to school
  2. Decorate your helmet, socks and/or shoes with lots of colours and patterns. This   is a competition and prizes will be awarded based on creativity

When: Friday 22nd March

Where: Alphington Primary School

Why

  • The Problem: Over the past 40 years the number of children who are physically active everyday has significantly dropped. In the 1970s, eight out of ten students rode or walked to school but today that number has dropped to just two out of ten.
  • The Solution: Students who ride or walk to school contribute to their minimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. They are also more focused and ready to learn compared to those who are driven.

House Points:

  • 5 points if you ride, scoot or walk to school
  • 5 points if you decorate your helmet, socks and/or shoes
  • Each class will also award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th place in the decorating contest:
    • 1st - 40 house points
    • 2nd - 30 house points
    • 3rd - 20 house points
    • 4th - 10 house points

We hope to see everyone getting involved in this fantastic day.

The eSafety Commissioner, (an Australian Government initiative), provides a range of free resources and webinars to parents and families, to help you learn about online activity and behaviours.

There are a couple of interesting webinars coming up, if you are interested, including:

  • Understanding how to support your child with online gaming
  • Understanding parental controls and how to safeguard your child
  • Online safety and social media- TikTok, YouTube and Instagram

These are all free to attend and provide relevant and practical information.

ROAD SAFETY - Yarralea Street

Another reminder to all families that the streets around APS turn into one way streets at drop off times and pick up times. We are witnessing many cars trying to leave Yarralea Street the wrong way during these times. Please ensure you follow the road rules if you are driving around the school and be mindful of pedestrians and bike riders who will be entering and leaving the school grounds at this time.
