Senior House Swimming Carnival

We kick started our House carnival events this year with our Senior School at Caulfield Aquatics Centre. With a modified program to maximise engagement, the day was filled with novelty fun events sandwiched between the stroke disciplines, with pool noodles, rubber rings and the likes for all to participate. Even the teachers were fully involved with two freestyle relay teams taking on the Year 12 House Captains. It might have been this win that fuelled further participation in a maxed-out novelty rubber ring face off against each year and the teachers, where the students redeemed themselves.

All of this action certainly added the heat when the house point totals came down to one of the final events. We congratulate Lloyd who took the overall win with 493 points over Langley (486 points), Blundell (383 points) and Thomas (278 points). We also congratulate our individual champions which was tightly contested in the senior swimming resulting in joint winners: Octavia T (Lloyd) and Haruna M (Blundell). Annabell W (Lloyd) took the inter win, and Milla E (Lloyd) in the Juniors. In the diving event, our senior champion was awarded to Alex T (Langley), our inter champion Bronte F (Langley) and our junior champion Chloe B (Blundell). Congratulations to everyone involved, this was truly a wonderful start to the year and really sets the stage for the house events; cross country and athletics coming up in Term 2.

GSV Swimming and Diving

On Monday 4 March, a team of 13 swimmers and 8 divers competed in their preferred event disciplines at MSAC. Whilst we had a very small team, the team was well trained with plenty of dedicated training sessions completed in the lead up to the event. The team spirit and morale was high, with students taking to the water with plenty of encouragement from their peers. Picking up some individuals ribbons and PB’s along the way, the morning was a real celebration of the GSV swimming journey, to which many of the girls have competed in each year during their time at Shelford. Octavia T awaits to hear whether she will compete in the GSV finals night as an emergency reserve in the 50m butterfly year 12, along with Alex T in the senior diving.

Division Swimming

On Friday 8 March, Anna K attended solo the division swimming championships in her qualifying event strokes: Age 12/13 breaststroke and backstroke from the SYDSA District event. Anna had a truly fantastic day, placing first in the 50m breaststroke with a new division record (38.37 seconds) and second place in the 50m backstroke. Anna proceeds through to the Regional event on Wednesday 27March at Rosebud and we look forward to hearing about how she goes.
