Hockey Finals

From Mrs Jane Crellen, MIC Hockey

This weekend saw two of our teams battling for a place in the grand final of their respective competitions.

On Friday afternoon, our U14 Blue team faced a strong Molong side. After trailing 2–0 at halftime, the team returned to the field with renewed determination. Their grit paid off, with two outstanding team goals levelling the score at 2–2 by the end of regular time. The match then headed into sudden death extra time. U14 Blue came out firing, forcing a short corner. With impressive precision, the ball was played to the top of the circle where Stella M calmly slotted it into the goal—securing an exhilarating victory and a well-deserved place in the Grand Final, to be played this Friday at 4:30pm.Congratulations and best of luck to the team for the big game!

On Sunday, our 1st Grade team took on Molong in their elimination final. Missing five key players due to various reasons, several 2nd Grade players stepped up to fill the gaps and delivered a strong performance. The team played with unwavering determination and spirit, producing some excellent passages of play and keeping the pressure on their opponents throughout the match. While the result didn’t go their way, it was a valiant and commendable effort from a fantastic group of players.

A big thank you to all the supporters who came along—your encouragement made a real difference and was truly appreciated by the team.

Stage 3 Tennis Report – Todd Woodbridge Cup

From Miss Belle Hazelton, MIC Tennis

On the 31 July, The Stage 3 team enjoyed a successful and exciting day of tennis, with all players demonstrating excellent enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and teamwork throughout the event. Two Kinross Wolaroi teams competed in different divisions, representing the school with pride.

Team 1 included Harry Sullivan, Janagan Kandeepan, Stuart Bell, Julian Capanas, Hallie Long, Marley Mitchell, Grace Harvey, Amelia Wood, Lulu Widauer, and Sophie Kerdic. They performed exceptionally well, winning all but three games across the day. Their efforts secured them a spot in a thrilling semi-final and ultimately a competitive final against Orange Christian School. Team 1 emerged as overall champions, and a selection of students from this team will now progress to the State competition in November.

Team 2 featured Nick Rourke, Nikhil Prasad, Edward Lai, Eddie Chapman, Reuben Toohey, Mahi Bora, Sophia Roweth, Sophia Martin, Grace Monaghan, and Madeline Russell. The team played a number of tightly contested matches, with their final game ending in a draw that placed them 5th overall based on accumulated points.

A special congratulations to Stuart Bell, who was presented with a 'Respect' award by the event officials in recognition of his conduct and character on the day.

WAS Athletics Carnival 2025

From Mr Ben Doyle, Head of Mathematics

On Wednesday 27 August, the Kinross Wolaroi School Athletics Team travelled to Dubbo with just over 60 students to compete in the WAS Athletics Carnival at Barden Park. It was an excellent day of competition, with Kinross Wolaroi athletes showing great spirit, determination, and skill across a range of events. This was also a good warm up and another opportunity for students to post times and distances to qualify for the ISA Carnival.

Congratulations to the following students who broke records on the day.

  • 17 Boys High Jump – W. Kline, 1.95m (KWS)
  • 13 Girls Javelin – J. Childs, 25.80m (KWS)
  • 16 Girls Long Jump – L. Chudleigh, 4.68m (KWS)
  • 12 Girls Long Jump – L. Klein, 4.56m (KWS)
  • 16 Boys 100m – C. Martin, 11.35s (KWS)
  • 17 Boys 100m – J. Brett, 11.52s (KWS)
  • 17 Boys 200m – J. Brett, 23.70s (KWS)
  • Senior Boys 4 x 100m Relay (17yrs+) – KWS, 46.64s

These results highlight the depth of athletic talent at Kinross Wolaroi, with many of these achievements coming from students who excel in other sports at the school.

A team of 35 students have qualified to represent the school at the next level, competing at the ISA Athletics Championships at the Sydney Olympic Athletic Centre. We wish them the very best as they take on this exciting challenge and will update the community with the results of this meet in the next bulletin issue.

Rowing into Full Spring

From Mr Ben Watt, MIC Rowing

There’s something special about this time of year—the warmth returning, the colours blooming, and the privilege of watching the sun rise over the water each morning. It’s a reminder of just how lucky we are to experience nature at its best while doing what we love.

Over the past fortnight, our Rowing squad has been blessed with exceptional conditions, providing the perfect platform to establish a strong technical base.

Our Juniors have made huge strides forward, with some crews already covering the full two-kilometre distance! While still finding their rhythm (as you’d expect from a fresh group), they’ve shown incredible promise, positivity, and eagerness to learn—something that has greatly impressed both coaches and senior rowers alike.

Meanwhile, our Seniors have been outstanding in their commitment, focusing on low-rate, endurance-driven training to build great habits and resilience. It’s been especially heartening to see our Senior Boys and Girls welcome the Juniors into the fold, sharing the water in combined sessions and setting the standard for effort and work ethic that defines KWS Rowing.

Beyond the water, we’re proud to celebrate the sporting success of our rowers across the school. Congratulations to Senior Girls Ruby L and Katie L on their incredible come-from-behind victory in the Girls 1st Rugby Grand Final. A special mention also to Lily B, Clare B, and Grace S from our Junior program, who were gallant in their narrow one-point Grand Final rugby loss. This weekend, we cheer on our Rowing Netballers—Pippa W, Asher J, Ella M, Poppy G, Tilly T, Millie C, Kaiti S, Georgia T, Em W, and Alice D—as they take the court in their finals. Go well, Girls! Best of luck also to the many winter sports teams competing in their own season-deciding matches.

As Term 3 draws to a close, we’re excited to carry this momentum into our October Holiday Camp, where we’ll continue to build a strong foundation for the season ahead.

History Made in the Storm

From Mr Lachlan Barrett, Acting MIC Rugby

KWS Representative U16s at the Central Coast 7s

The KWS U16s 7s side etched their names into schoolboy rugby history this past week at the NSW State Championships on the Central Coast. Braving what can only be described as the "worst conditions in Schoolboy Rugby history", the boys showed immense grit and composure.

Against the odds, they secured a historic 1st place draw in the pool stage, a first for our program at this level. Their effort wasn’t just about results - it was about resilience, teamwork and the refusal to let conditions dictate their performance.

A huge thank you to Head Coach Sam Bettle, whose steady leadership and belief in the team gave the players the confidence to not only chase, but rise above the storm. His guidance has been central to this success.

The squad’s unity and determination shone through every tackle, pass and try. In doing so, they not only raised the bar for themselves but also inspired the wider KWS Rugby Community with what’s possible when adversity is met head-on.

Congratulations to our representative players, you're all proof that the storm cannot dampen true spirit.

1st Hockey XI

From Mrs Catherine Litchfield, Head of Co-curricular Learning

It was bad luck for the 1st hockey girls who competed unsuccessfully in their finals in Molong on Sunday. They deserve congratulations for making the finals and playing a cracking game. A special shout out to Zoe and Lara – our Year 12 players – congratulations on a wonderful season and a terrific contribution to KWS Hockey!
