Wellbeing

At St Patricks, we use GEM Chats—short questions and prompts that encourage students to reflect on their Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy (EL) habits. These chats can be led by any staff member and are designed to spark conversation, strengthen connections, and help students build positive daily habits.
Regular GEM Chats benefit students by helping them to:
- build stronger relationships through kindness and empathy,
- improve focus and wellbeing through mindfulness,
- develop resilience by recognising and expressing emotions,
- and grow a positive outlook through practising gratitude.
By practising GEM Chats regularly, students are supported to carry these valuable skills into their everyday life, both at school and beyond.
