SRC Fundraiser
A huge thank you to our SRC for facilitating Wednesday’s Dress in Yellow Day in support of the Fred Hollows Foundation. The Foundation does incredible work in restoring sight and improving eye health for people in need across the world, with millions of lives already transformed through their efforts. It was wonderful to see so much yellow shining brightly across the school—it truly warmed our hearts! Together, our community raised a fantastic total of $474.50, which will go directly towards this important cause.
Parent Student Teacher Conferences
This week also saw our Parent Student Teacher Conferences take place. These were student-led, meaning our young learners shared their work with their parents and carers, taking real ownership and (basically) running the meetings themselves. A big thank you to our students for being so involved and responsible and to our parents for coming along and being such an important part of the process. Our teachers were so impressed by the confidence, organisation and pride shown throughout the day - it was a real celebration of learning.
One Foundation student really summed up the spirit of the event by announcing to their family that they were “the boss” not just of their conference, but of the entire day! They laid out their "boss clothes" the night before, directed their parents where to sit at their conference and generally ran the show like a little legend. Moments like these highlight just how powerful (and hillarious) student voice can be!
Solar Upgrade
Over the past few school years, our community has been hard at work fundraising to help offset the cost of our planned solar upgrade. While the school is still contributing a significant portion of the funds, every dollar raised by our families helps bring this project closer to reality—thank you for your support!
We are very close to making it happen, with the final contract currently being reviewed by the Department’s legal team before we can sign on the dotted line. Once the contract is signed, the contractors anticipate an 8 - 10 week turnaround for installation, we are hopeful that the upgrade will be completed by the end of 2025.
This is an exciting step towards a more sustainable, energy-efficient school for our students and the wider community!
School Uniform Reminders
We’ve noticed lately that our school uniform standards have been slipping, and it’s something we’d like to nip in the bud. At MPS, we expect students to take pride in their appearance - it’s not just about looking neat and tidy at school, but also about how our students represent MPS when travelling to and from school, and when out and about on excursions.
Recently we’ve seen a number of non-compliant items creeping in (such as casual hoodies, off scheme tracksuit pants and unsafe earrings), and we need to get back on track.
A few key reminders:
- Uniform items can be ordered online or in store from our supplier, Spartan School World. Our official colour scheme is green and yellow, with green or black bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts) to complement.
- Families are also welcome to purchase generic items (for example, plain green or black bottoms from Kmart, Target, Big W etc.) as long as they match the colour scheme. This can be a great way to help ease cost-of-living pressures while still keeping everyone looking consistent.
- For safety reasons, only stud earrings should be worn, especially during sporting activities.
Don’t forget we also have a second-hand uniform stall at the office, with all items available at very reasonable prices.
Our School Council is currently updating the MPS School Uniform Policy, which will be communicated to families in mid Term 4. From the beginning of next year, the updated policy will be expected to be followed strictly.
Thank you for your support in helping maintain the high standards that make our school community shine.
Wrapping Up Term 3
Although Term 3 was a shorter one at just nine weeks (compared with Term 2’s eleven), it was just as busy as ever. Term 3 used to be thought of as the 'quiet term' in schools - these days, there’s no such thing!
Across the past nine weeks we’ve celebrated 100 Days of School with our Foundation students, cheered on our senior students at multiple Athletics Carnivals and enjoyed a wide range of camps, excursions, incursions and interschool sport matches. We also had the joy of Book Week, the excitement of our school Production, swimming lessons for our Foundation to Year 2 students and important water safety days for our Year 5/6s. To top it all off, we’ll be finishing with the always-popular Footy Day on the last day of term.
A huge thank you goes to our parent and carer community for the way you get behind and support these events. Whether it’s helping out on the day, cheering from the sidelines or simply encouraging your children to take part, your involvement makes such a difference. These moments mean so much to the school, and especially to the kids, and we couldn’t do it without your support.
It has been a vibrant and energetic term, filled with wonderful opportunities for learning, participation and community connection. We hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable break and we look forward to welcoming all students back for an exciting Term 4!
