College Hockey

What a wonderful conclusion to the 2025 Hockey Season. Four teams in grand finals, and our Division One Men and Women are crowned premiers.  This remarkable feat speaks volumes about the talent, dedication and hard work that flows through every level of our club.

Thank you to our amazing coaches, managers and families who have invested hours of time nurturing skills and building character. And of course, to our wonderful players, the backbone of our club.

Special thanks and congratulations to our Captains of Hockey, Olivia Read and Jack Jarvis, for their commitment and leadership. To Ben Hawthorne and Stephen Nelson for their unwavering support and organisation.

Division 1 Men's

On Friday night at 7:30, the College Men’s team faced the Rams for a second year in the Grand Final. Feeling prepared and hungry for the win, the boys came out from the starting whistle with some great intensity. Missing our coach, Dr Hawthorne, who is in Vietnam with the year 9s, we were determined to give him some good news at the end of the trip

Unfortunately, with a small lapse in concentration, Rams were able to score early to finish the first quarter at 1-0. After recouping on the bench, the team came out with some great attacking pressure to equalise the scores, with a second effort by Jack Jarvis for the goal. Two goals by Jack brought the score to 2-1, and the team was able to maintain this until halftime with some tight defence and magnificent saves in goals by Cairo Cullinane.

After going goal-for-goal, with Mark Jarvis scoring in a short corner for college, the scores were tied 3-3 until the final few minutes. With 3 minutes left and hard attacking pressure from the team, Jack was able to put a goal into the net to bring the score to 4-3. Our focus turned to defence for the final minutes, and after a hard-fought battle to the end, the final whistle blew, and College was deemed the Div 1 Men’s Premiers!

All of the hard work from the team throughout the season, week after week, had paid off, and after 6 years, we brought the trophy back to the school. The team should be proud of how they all played their best in this game, rising to the occasion. Congratulations go to Harry Brown, who deservedly won the player of the match award, for yet another exceptional game.

Finally, a thank you goes to Mr MacLean, for bringing your joy and wisdom to each training and game through the season. Thanks to Dr Hawthorne for your exceptional coaching that brought the team together for this special win, from the start of the season to Friday night, on FaceTime, all the way from Vietnam. Thanks to all involved, from umpires, those working behind the scenes, and to the team, for another fantastic hockey season.
