Grade 1/2 Creature Scratch Backs

Our Grade 1/2 students have been busy exploring their imaginations through art, inspired by the incredible work of Australian illustrator Shaun Tan. After learning about his unique and whimsical creatures, the students designed their own imaginative characters using bright oil pastels. Next, they painted over their drawings with a special mix of black paint and dishwashing liquid. The real magic happened when they used wooden sticks to carefully scratch away parts of the black layer – revealing their colourful creatures underneath! The results were amazing! Each artwork is full of personality, creativity, and colour. Well done to our young artists for their wonderful effort and imagination!
